Supernatural’s episode titles have been so great this season and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is another great one. The title isn’t the only thing that was good about this episode, but the episode was top-notch itself. In this episode we find out what Sam was doing while Dean was in hell and the brothers embark on an important mission to save a girl who’s being chased by demons.

All we knew up until this point was that Sam was very sad when Dean went to hell, but I don’t think we expected for Sam to be so self-destructive. We watched as Sam started drinking and taking any type of risks to save Dean. Sam didn’t care whether anything happened to him and there were times where Sam was just totally letting his guard down. Jared Padalecki did a great job playing this side of Sam that we’ve never seen before and it was one of his best episodes yet.

The relationship between Sam and Ruby came up in this episode and the story played itself off very well. Sam and Ruby teaming up didn’t seem cheesy and the story played itself off pretty perfectly. I don’t know if we saw Sam sleeping with Ruby coming, but that worked well also. The writers have definitely given Ruby something more than her just being a demon. They’ve basically made her human. You can see her show sadness, anger and happiness unlike the rest of the demons, and it’s obvious that she really does care about Sam. Could the two actually have a relationship? Probably not, but for now, I’m kind of pulling for them.

Mark Rolston as Alastair

Dean and Sam trying to save Anna, a girl who could hear angel was just as interesting as the flashbacks. It did emit a whole Joan of Arc vibe, but it worked. It feels like there’s more to Anna than we’re being told because there has to be some reason why she’s able to hear angel’s voices. The demons were after her and one of them manages to find her. The demon that found them was named Alastair and apparently Dean knew him from hell. Just from this one encounter it really does have us intrigued about what Dean went through exactly down in hell, because it seems like they really did a number on him. It was a bit of a bummer that they lost Ruby’s knife again and now the only weapon they really have against the demons is Sam’s power which unfortunately isn’t working the way he wants it too.

From the flashbacks we get a real sense of who Ruby is and Dean does too. It was a another good moment when Dean gives Ruby his version of an apology. Once they were able to get the girl to safety, it looked like they were going to be attacked by demons again until Castiel and Uriel showed up wanting to kill her. The cliffhanger could have been stronger, but it definitely left us interested in the reason for why these angels want her dead, especially considering that Anna seemed like such a nice girl.

There was really only one problem with this episode and it’s that Genevieve Cortese’s acting simply isn’t strong enough in my opinion. The episode was so good and giving Ruby so much depth lessened the blow, but I still couldn’t help but see Katie Cassidy in the role doing the lines much better. Don’t let this deter you from watching the show, because it’s really a minor problem. Other than that, the episode flowed along greatly.

Next week we get to find out why the angels want Anna dead and there better be a good reason. This episode was another great one to add to the season. There were great performances from our two lead actors and the writers did such a great job of coming up with a believable story for us to follow. We’re coming up to the half-way point of the season and it’s amazing how great this season has been. Hopefully they keep the great pace when we enter the second half of the season.

Supernatural took a slight detour once again from the main plot of keeping the seals from being unlocked, but that’s kind of what Supernatural does. This is one of those episodes where the Winchester boys go to a town and solve the local supernatural event. What could have been the average supernatural “mystery of the week” turns into something that’s a bit out of the ordinary. During this episode, we saw a talking bear, an invisible boy, and geeky guy married to a hot chick; oh and did I mention that the bear is suicidal.

Dean and Sam find themselves in a town where wishes are actually coming true. The idea of wishes coming true might not be so bad, but after a while these wishes end up being too much for one person to handle and they end up having bad side effects. We’re introduced to Audrey who wished that her bear could come to life. The bear is alive and talking, but he’s depressed and suicidal. A talking stuffed animal might be the weirdest and funniest sight we’ve seen on Supernatural and for a show that’s shown us just about everything of the supernatural, that’s saying a lot. If you want to see a stuffed teddy bear attempt to commit suicide, then this is the episode for you.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester

To reverse all the wishes, Dean and Sam have to find the person who made the first wish which leads them Wesley who has a fiancée that loves him more then anything. The suspicious part is that the fiancée is actually hot, while Wesley has more of a geeky look. It was kind of a sad story because Wesley was hopelessly in love, but ends up being forced to give it up to undo the wrong that all the other wishes were causing. It’s always great to see Ted Raimi in a role and usually we’re shown his comedic side whenever we do see him, but it was cool to see him play somewhat of a more emotional role.

The issue of Dean remembering what hell was like was brought back also with Sam pressing Dean about the info. Dean pretends not to remember and he actually seems pretty convincing, but the nightmares end up being a giveaway. I thought Sam would use the wishing well to find out about Dean’s time in hell, but he didn’t. Dean used the well to get a sandwich and that didn’t turn out so well though. In the end, Dean does tell Sam he remembers what happens, but that what he saw was so disturbing that he just couldn’t tell Sam. Dean as a character is mostly fearless, but whenever he does show fear Jensen Ackles nails the emotion down really well.

All the rest of the wishes that came true were pretty entertaining. We had a little boy who wished for super strength to knock Dean out and Dean and Sam hit the invisible boy with his car. All of this was pretty funny. We also saw Dean and Sam stoop to using the lowest aliases ever by pretending to be teddy bear doctors. This episode was out of the ordinary and that’s a good thing. It did a good job of distracting us from the main storyline. It’s okay to divert from the main plot line of stopping Lilith and stopping the seals just as long as we keep getting neat episodes like this. While not main plot material, it was still a good episode.

It’s Halloween night and just like Sam says every day is Halloween for him and his brother. Of course, viewers on the show know that Halloween is the one day where even worse things happen to the brothers. This year was no exception. Halloween week is usually a reason television show to throw out lame ideas or episodes where the main storyline is ignored. Supernatural changes that by throwing out a great episode filled with character and storyline progression. This episode puts other Halloween themed episodes to shame.

Like almost every episode, Dean and Sam are investigating a string of murders. The first being a man who died because he swallowed four razor blades and the next being a girl who gets her face literally boiled. The relation between the two deaths is that both scenes contained hex bags. Sam is able to put the clues together and figure out that the death’s are all part of a blood sacrifice to make a demon rise; a demon that can summon any kind of demon.

This isn’t just your average demon exorcism either; the town just so happens to be the site of one of the 66 seals needed to free Lucifer. Castiel comes back in this episode and he’s joined by Uriel. It was interesting to see another angel on the show. Uriel’s role in this episode was interesting because we find out that he’s a hammer and that he destroys towns that are a danger to the rest of the world. This episode also marks the first time that Sam meets Castiel and it was funny watching Sam fall all over himself when meeting Castiel. It was even made more amusing when Sam realizes that these angels aren’t the type of angels that he imagined. Supernatural’s different take on angels is great, these angels are doing good, but they’re not going about it the way that most people would think and they have no problem killing one innocent human for a million more. The scariest part is hearing Uriel say that it wasn’t the first time that they destroyed a city.

Ashley Benson as Tracy Davis

The story took some interesting turns. We were always pretty sure that it was the cheerleader, even though we were make it think that it was the teacher doing all of this. Dean makes the choice to stay in the city and try to save it, but fails. The seal is opened, but the demon is defeated. Sam was forced to use his new exorcism power and this one took a lot more out of him and the look in Sam’s eye even showed a little demon in him. Sam made a promise that he wouldn’t use his power anymore, but the writers are doing a great job of putting Sam in a position where he’s almost forced to use it.

There was a lot revealed in this episode, most importantly was when Castiel reveals to Dean that his real orders were to follow Sam’s orders. It was also cool to hear thoughts from Castiel that were his own about how he questions everything and isn’t actually sure what is right or wrong. Castiel represents the human who questions God and it’s cool to see an angel who isn’t like the others. God has a plan for Dean and it almost seems that Dean will be forced to lead his own army by the end of this season. Dean being the leader of God’s army is funny because Sam was supposed to be the leader of the devil’s. It’s not really clear why Uriel would bring up Dean remembering what he went through in hell to Sam though. Dean keeping his memories of hell from his brother really is an example of the secrets that the two are keeping from each other and it’s making for an interesting dynamic between the two.

Seals are being broken as Dean deal with one seal, so it’s unclear just how many seals have been opened already, but we can probably count on all of them being open by the end of the season. This episode moved the story along and progressed our characters. Supernatural is having its best season yet and Halloween episode fit right in with the rest of the season.

Supernatural once again diverted from the main storyline somewhat to give us an episode that had Dean and Sam investigating another unexplained murder. This episode could have been just another monster of the week type of episode, but with a great story and good acting, this episode ends up being a winner.

Dean’s usually the tough one out of the two, even though Sam has gotten pretty tough himself, but out of the two, Dean’s the one who doesn’t like to share his feelings. This episode gave Jensen Ackles a chance to show off the other side of Dean. Watching Dean as he’s scared to carry a gun or getting freaked out about posing as F.B.I. agents was something that has to be watched, because most likely it won’t happen ever again. Dean getting infected by a disease that makes the victim scared of everything ultimately killing them was a good thing to do. Monster of the week episodes aren’t necessarily bad, but they’re a lot better when the brothers have a personal reason for wanting to solve the murders.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester

The best part of this episode was when Dean’s biggest fears are realized and shown to us. The first one being when he see’s Sam turn into a demon; Sam ask a yellow eyes demon was a cool look actually, but still pretty scary. The second hallucination was when he see’s Lilith. We’re supposed to believe that this Lilith is a hallucination, but she brings up the fact that Dean does remember what happened in hell, even though up until now, Dean’s been denying that he remembers anything. It was good seeing Lilith again, but it’s still a bit creepy that she’s still in the body of the cute little girl. Dean’s biggest fear is that he doesn’t want to get sent to hell again because whatever happened down there must have been bad. It’s just too bad that Dean didn’t tell Sam that he actually saw Lilith in his hallucination; it’s just another sign that Dean’s biggest flaw could be his inability to open up.

There were very few annoying things in this episode. One being the sheriff of the town. At first, it seemed like he was the demon, but really he was affected by the same disease that Dean was. It just felt like it was unnecessary to even have this in the episode because he didn’t really give Dean or Sam any problems in the episode, so it all seemed a bit silly when he just drops dead in the middle of hotel living room.

Sam took somewhat of a backseat this episode compared to Dean, but it was once again cool to see Sam be able to handle everything by himself with Dean incapacitated. It’s amazing how much development Sam has made since season one. He’s really come into his own now.

Supernatural has really be on quite the high this season. This was quite a good episode, but it’s disappointing to be off track from the main story for so long. Supernatural has gotten so good this season that good episodes actually disappoint me a little. I’m hoping Supernatural’s episode is better and we start heading a little more back into Dean and Sam’s fighting for god mission.

In “Monster Movie,” the cast and crew get to indulge in their love for black and white horror movies. The result isn’t an all around horrible mess, but it’s definitely a disappointing episode to have amongst the great episodes that we’ve had so far this season. This episode is one that can definitely be missed.

This week has the boys back on the hunt in Pennsylvania to investigate a vampire murder. The boys revert back to their F.B.I. personas, but they stick to just plain Dean and Sam.

While Sam and Dean are in Pennsylvania, another murder takes place only the witness is saying that it’s a werewolf. Dean meets Jamie who he’s hoping can take away his re-virginity. The boys are led on the usual goose chase until Dean is poisoned by Jamie’s bartender friend who turns out to be a shape shifter. For some reason on Supernatural, shape shifters aren’t taken very seriously, in fact, they’re usually used for comedic episodes.

Jensen Ackles as Dean, Todd Stashwick as Dracula

It was obvious that the episode was supposed to be funny and obviously kind of a homage to black-and-white horror movies, but this episode wasn’t really funny and if it did anything to the black-and-white horror movies, it made them seem cheesier then they were originally.

Having the whole episode is black-and-white didn’t really do anything for the episode either. It did give it somewhat of an old school type of production look, but it wasn’t really all that necessary. Then again, I don’t think I would have been able to take Dracula seriously unless he was in black and white.

It’s really disappointing to have such a pointless episode in the middle of what’s been a great storyline. This episode really slows down the pace for this season and hopefully we can get back on the main story next episode. Every season of any show usually has an episode where it doesn’t go with the rest of the season and is just sort of filler in a way. So we can forgive Supernatural for this episode, just hopefully we won’t have to deal with another episode like this too soon or ideally for the rest of the season.

Things between Sam and Dean have been a bit tense with each keeping secrets from the other. When the brothers have to decide how to deal with a man who has a demon inside of him, it leads to some unusual tactics from the Winchester brothers.

Right from the beginning, we see Dean watching Sam as he and Ruby exorcise a demon. Dean is furious about this, because Sam lied to him. There also seems to be a concern from Dean that by Sam using his powers that it could lead to Sam going down the wrong path and possibly turning evil himself. This is the same fear that Castiel and God have about Sam’s power, but like Castiel said, Sam’s future is unclear, so it could very well be a good thing for all we know.

The boys get a call from a fellow hunter named Travis who needs help capturing Jack, a man who has a Rugaru inside of him. A Rugaru is a flesh-eating demon… it’s mostly a tapeworm giving the person an insatiable appetite and driving the person to ultimately eating human flesh where they’ll transform. Rugaru might be one of the worst names for a demon that we’ve gotten on the show and it honestly sounds like a monster kids see in their closet or something.

Sam and Dean each have a different way of going about this. Dean wants to burn Jack and get it over with, but also to prevent him from hurting anyone and Sam sympathizes with Jack and wants to talk to him in hopes that Jack can control the demon inside of him. There was a lot suspense in this episode as we watched Jack try to control the demon inside of him and there were several times during the episode where it looked like he was going to attack someone. We sympathize with Jack, because he’s not a bad person and he tried really hard to control himself.

Jared Padalecki as Sam and Jensen Ackles as Dean

Travis feels unsatisfied by the boy’s wait-and-see policy and decides to take things into his own hands by attempting to burn Jack and his wife who’s pregnant with a child who carried the Rugaru gene. Travis is one of the hunters that we don’t sympathize with in this episode. We do understand where he’s coming from being an old school hunter and all, but the way he went about it was wrong. In a certain way you couldn’t help but be somewhat glad when Jack eats his flesh a little…

In the end Jack loses his family and ultimately his life, but it was definitely a sad moment to see him have to die. If Travis wouldn’t have taken it that far, Jack could have ultimately lived his life with his family.

It felt like the directors had a lot of time left over from their original script or something, because the first half of the episode is mostly the explanation of what the Rugaru is. It felt like it took forever for the boys to come and try to help Jack.

There was a lot of meaningful dialogue in this episode like Sam telling Dean what it feels like to have demon blood flowing in him. It’s also nice to see Sam standing up for himself and not afraid to tell Dean what he’s thinking anymore. It’s really a testament to the show how much Sam has changed and how developed his character has become.

I also didn’t get why Sam just couldn’t use his exorcism powers on Jack. He said in the beginning of the episode that it only worked on demon and this was a demon, so it would have been nice to have an explanation why Sam couldn’t exorcise this one. We’re also left wondering whether Jack’s wife is going to have the baby or if she’ll repeat the cycle over again by having a baby who could turn out like his father. I like to think that she probably went and had an abortion, but who knows several seasons from now Dean and Sam could have another Rugaru on their hands.

Ruby also finally got more then a couple of lines this episode, but not much more. The scene in which Dean meets Ruby again wasn’t as good as it could have been with Genevieve Cortese playing Ruby. While she’s nice to look at, she doesn’t nearly have the presence or attitude that Katie Cassidy brought to the table and every scene that should be interesting like Dean discovering that she’s alive doesn’t have that same effect like it should.

This was a good episode, but different from what we’re used too. It was nice for a change to actually sympathize with the supposed villain for once. It did feel like there was a lot of unused time though and it’s definitely not as strong as the episodes that came before it; but still it was an enjoyable episode.

I always say if there’s one thing you have to watch out for when it comes to television it’s time-travel. The reason why is that time-travel is one of the few things on television that we still don’t know about and one of the things that we still have any information on. Fortunately, Supernatural does it with class and taste though, just like they do everything else. Dean’s trip to the past proves to be interesting for us all and adds another episode that fans of the show can be proud of.

Dean gets sent to the past right outside a diner that coincidentally his father is at. Dean’s meeting with his father was interesting, but surprisingly boring, like his father. It was surprising to see that John Winchester was just a normal guy in 1973 with no past of hunting or anything. Dean assisted in helping his dad pick the car, because John was going to pick the Winnebago originally.

The real surprise was that Dean’s mom was the hunter of the family, which is something that I don’t think we knew before. Dean’s initial reaction to seeing his younger mom was that she was a babe, which is classic Dean. The writers did a great job with casting and all the actors did a great job. The resemblance between Dean and his grandfather Samuel really showed in this episode.

It was confusing to figure out exactly why Castiel sent Dean to this point of time, but by the end of the episode we realize that it was the day that sealed his mom’s fate.

Jensen Ackles as Dean, Amy Gumenick as Mary Winchester, Mitch Pileggi as Samuel Winchester, and Allison Hossak as Deanna Winchester

Dean kept trying to stop things from happening, he was able to get the Colt, which was only a myth in 1973 and had chances to try to kill yellow eyes, but all attempts failed. The Demon kills Dean’s grandparents and then sets off after Mary, in a shocking turn of events he also kills John. Mary makes a deal for the Demon to swing by her house, which will lead to him giving Sam his own blood and things end playing out the same way again even with Dean’s interference. Speaking of old Yellow Eyes, it was great to see him back and no matter who plays him, he’s just as menacing from when we first met him. The way he was getting people to agree to deals was just so manipulative and ultimately his manipulation techniques would end up working on Dean’s mother.

The problem with the time-traveling episode is that we’re not sure if this was the way everything really happened and if it wasn’t is what Dean did in the past the new past. Time-travel is tricky and this episode was no different, but it was handled decently.

Now Dean knows that the Demon had been trying to get an army for some kind of purpose since 1973 and it’s just coming to fruition. Nobody knows exactly what Yellow Eyes was planning, but we know it’s evil. God is worried about what Sam is doing, because the outcome of what he’s doing is unclear and the only thing worse then a troubled past is one that God can’t see apparently. Now Dean has to stop whatever it is and it now sets up this dynamic between the brothers, because in the end, it might come down to Dean killing Sam, which would be odd considering Dean sold his soul to bring Sam back from the dead.

What made this episode better was the emotional connection we saw Dean have with meeting his mother and the emotions that we could see about how much he so desperately wanted to save her. If Dean has a soft spot, it’s definitely his mother, and it was great to see an emotional Dean and not the hard Dean we’re used too.

Supernatural delivered us a great trip to the past and we learned a lot, plus it was nice to have some background information on just what type of people the rest Dean’s family was. Supernatural’s fourth season is going along nicely and it’s been one of the pleasures of this season. This episode was nearly perfect.

“Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester” is the perfect name to this episode, being a big fan of Judy Blume when I was younger, it was nice to see a title of Supernatural be connected to the book. It’s also the perfect name, because the girl in the book questioned a lot of things and in this episode, Dean questions God and religion too.

This week, people that Dean and Sam have known are coming back from the dead. The crew don’t know why, even Bobby had people from his past show up too. Most noticeably Meg made an appearance. She died off first season and her hair looked really different, so if you didn’t actually watch first season or you’re not a total dedicated viewer, it was kind of hard to recognize who she is, but she was pain in the butt. Agent Henrickson was back also and it was nice to have him back, but a bit sad when he describes how Lilith tortured them all before she killed them, even the nice secretary. It did bring up the reminder of the episode when I started to hate Lilith though.

Jim Beaver as Bobby

The chase was pretty fun and it was cool to see the team get caught off guard. Dean and Sam both hesitated before actually fighting back against the ghosts that were haunting them. The room Boby had built was awesome, just like Dean said and it’s been great to have Bobby in the two episode, because he really just adds to the dynamic that the boys have. Plus it’s cool having an older person to somewhat supervise Dean and Sam. He’s also the only one who could really call the boys idiots without getting his butt kicked.

Then we had Dean talking to Castiel and and it was cool that Dean asks questions that normal people ask about God and because we’re dealing with religion here, the answers to some of his questions might never be answered and it looks like they’re going to mix a little religion with a lot of Supernatural mythology and come up with something that will be satisfying enough

It was another good episode, but the outcome of the ghosts coming back was a bit more boring then the actual chase. It was a logical way to kill the ghosts, but the entertainment value for the audience wasn’t really there. Plus what did the two girls that were haunting Bobby have to do with him, because he seemed really shook up by seeing them. This was still a good episode and we’re just waiting to see where the story will go from here.

Supernatural is back and apparently so is Dean. Literally pulled out of the grave, Dean finds himself back on earth, in the middle of nowhere. It’s been four months and things have changed, but thankfully the show is still just as good as ever.

Dean comes back in the opening moments of the show. Thankfully the writers didn’t try to overdramatize Dean coming back or draw it out over the season. The writers got right to the point and brought Dean back quickly. Dean finds Bobby and the initial reaction had Bobby attacking Dean, eventually Dean convinces him, but through the episode you can tell that Bobby doesn’t full believe Dean is himself. The same goes for Sam, who reacted the same way. Both scenes felt so genuine and the reaction was cleverly done, because it was something that Sam and Bobby would both do.

Nothing seems to have changed much in the four months that Dean’s been gone, but Sam has. Sam has been on his own for four month and it definitely shows through out the episode. He’s a lot more independent and the small changes he’s made are noticeable even the iPod in the Chevy.

Jensen Ackles as Dean, Jared Padalecki as Sam

It’s funny that in any other show, everyone would be happy to have the hero come back from the dead, but not Supernatural. Once Dean is back, the group get to work on finding out who or what pulled Dean out.

Things get weird when we find out that it was God, yes the GOD that chose to bring Dean back. Castiel is the angel who looks like he’ll be guiding Dean. It’s great to see Supernatural bring heaven into the show, for long we’ve only experienced the dark powers of the world on Supernatural but it was good to hear that there’s a good side as well as the dark side. The writer’s have really done their work too, because all the mythology like people not being able to handle Gods or angels true form was in there and it’s just great to watch a show that really does the research beforehand.

Dean has been brought back to do something for God, but he’s not sure what it is yet and in fact doesn’t understand why God brought him back. He doesn’t think he’s worthy of coming back. Supernatural started off with a bang and based off this first episode, we have another excellent season ahead of us.
