PSYCH – S05E08 – Shawn 2.0 Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

I admit that when I learned that Nestor Carbonell was going to be on PSYCH, I was super PSYCHed. I've come to absolutely adore him on Lost over the past few years. His acting brilliance was proudly displayed on Lost in several episodes. Nestor's transition to a multi-episode stint on PSYCH seemed to be a flawless one. I thought he was really good in "Shawn 2.0." Nestor Carbonell played Declan Rand, an acclaimed psychic who offered his services to ... Read More

Having been tricked by Gus (Dulé Hill) to help out on an environmental clean-up effort on the Channel Islands, Shawn (James Roday) was in for quite a surprise when a prison break took place. A group of prisoners out on detail overpowered their guard, Craig (Chi McBride), and tried to make their big escape, only to be foiled by Shawn and Gus. There are times in which I wish the writers would toughen Gus up a little, but sometimes his weak moments ... Read More

PSYCH – S05E06 – Viagra Falls Review

Wow, it's been a while. It seems like months since I've gotten caught up on the latest adventures of Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill). I've been watching far too much drama and not enough comedy of late. If there's ever one show I can count on to make me laugh, it's PSYCH. "Viagra Falls" centers on a pair of retired cops who were the go-to investigators back in the day. When the former police chief is found ... Read More

PSYCH – S05E05 – Shawn & Gus in Drag (Racing) Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

"Shawn & Gus in Drag (Racing)" had me laughing right from the start. The evening's racing theme was ripe for riffing on. The movie Point Break had several references, some of which I got and some I didn't. Point Break's not a movie I watch often enough and PSYCH's references can be obscure at times. Lassiter's inability to bring down a bunch of street racing punks gave Shawn and Gus an opening and they capitalized on it. They wanted ... Read More

PSYCH – S05E04 – Chivalry is Not Dead… But Someone is Review

I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't figure out the killer's identity until pretty far into the episode. I just didn't think Eugenia was the killer. Mr. Prescott and Jillian were clearly the most likely suspects and I completely overlooked the quiet Eugenia. John Michael Higgins was outstanding as Clive Prescott. The Prescott character reminded me a lot of Cary Elwes' character from the season premiere. They're both unabashedly arrogant. He gave Shawn Spencer a solid run for ... Read More

PSYCH – S05E03 – Not Even Close… Encounters Review

I've been looking forward to a UFO episode for about a season now. PSYCH likes to dabble in the truly bizarre and it doesn't get much stranger than UFOs. Shawn and Gus always seem to have a good time trying to debunk stuff like this, but in this case, they both happen to believe in UFOs. That fact made this episode all the more entertaining. Since Shawn and Gus have always had an interest in the subject of UFOs, it ... Read More

PSYCH – S05E02 – Feet, Don’t Kill Me Now Review

Watching our four main characters work in different teams to solve a murder was an interesting new change on the show. There were some tense moments as everyone tried to find a way to work with one another. Personalities clashed right before our eyes, only for everything to go back to how they should be half-way through the episode. Watching Shawn and Juliet work together was nowhere near the treat it was to see Gus and Lassiter work together. They ... Read More

PSYCH – S05E01 – Romeo and Juliet and Juliet Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

I think the time off between seasons rejuvenated the writers and actors. The fifth season premiere was really well done. The mystery was good and the comedy was even better. I'll admit right off the kidnapping plot had some really nice twists to it. It wasn't so simple. It took a while to get to the bottom of what was really going on. It didn't turn out to be you cut and dry Romeo and Juliet story. ... Read More

PSYCH – Season 4 Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

Instead of writing reviews for the few episodes I didn't cover last season, I have decided to re-watch the entire season and review the season as a whole. The fourth season will, for me at least, go down as a relatively forgettable season. I didn't think the writers put their best effort forward, but that doesn't mean season four wasn't without its moments. Even an off season of PSYCH is better than a good season for most shows. Timothy Omundson ... Read More

PSYCH – S04E09 – Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

This Friday's installment of PSYCH had me intrigued right from the start with the disappearance of Shawn Spencer. Gus and Juliet retraced Shawn's steps that may have gotten him to the junkyard where everyone gathered. Meanwhile, Henry and Lassiter tried to track down Shawn by using the clues he managed to send in a text message. Watching Henry and Lassiter try to work together was humorous at times. Lassiter considers himself to still be a young buck when he tries ... Read More
