I admit that when I learned that Nestor Carbonell was going to be on PSYCH, I was super PSYCHed. I've come to absolutely adore him on Lost over the past few years. "Shawn & Gus in Drag (Racing)" had me laughing right from the start. The evening's racing theme was ripe for riffing on. The movie Point Break had several references, some of which I got and some I didn't. Point Break's not a movie I watch often enough and PSYCH's references can be obscure at times. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't figure out the killer's identity until pretty far into the episode. I just didn't think Eugenia was the killer. Mr. Prescott and Jillian were clearly the most likely suspects and I completely overlooked the quiet Eugenia. John Michael Higgins was outstanding as Clive Prescott. I've been looking forward to a UFO episode for about a season now. PSYCH likes to dabble in the truly bizarre and it doesn't get much stranger than UFOs. Shawn and Gus always seem to have a good time trying to debunk stuff like this, but in this case, they both happen to believe in UFOs. That fact made this episode all the more entertaining. Watching our four main characters work in different teams to solve a murder was an interesting new change on the show. There were some tense moments as everyone tried to find a way to work with one another. Personalities clashed right before our eyes, only for everything to go back to how they should be half-way through the episode. I think the time off between seasons rejuvenated the writers and actors. The fifth season premiere was really well done. The mystery was good and the comedy was even better. I'll admit right off the kidnapping plot had some really nice twists to it. It wasn't so simple. It took a while to get to the bottom of what was really going on. Instead of writing reviews for the few episodes I didn't cover last season, I have decided to re-watch the entire season and review the season as a whole. The fourth season will, for me at least, go down as a relatively forgettable season. Gus and Juliet retraced Shawn's steps that may have gotten him to the junkyard where everyone gathered.
