Finales are a difficult thing to pull off, especially when it comes to the end of an entire series. It’s simply not possible to please everyone, but I thought this was a fitting conclusion to the series.

If you’ve watched the show over the past few seasons, then you’ll feel right at home with all of what happened in the big two-hour finale. It’s impossible to know who is telling the truth and when. But rest assured, the general isn’t going to stay true to his word.

Prison Break isn’t exactly known for its moments of levity, but the one lighter moment in the finale was when Sara accused T-Bag of having problems “getting it up,” shall we say. I thought it was quite clever for the circumstances.

Sarah Wayne Callies as Dr. Sara Tancredi

I’m not going to rehash everything like I would to some extent, but there were some notable guest appearances from the early seasons. I was shocked to see Sucre and Kellerman back on. Both proved to be helpful and I’m glad they were included in the show.

I don’t quite know what I would have done if I were Michael towards the end. Do you trust Kellerman? He’s not always been there for Lincoln and Michael. That’s a tough call to make.

My biggest problem with the finale was the feds and how ridiculously relentless they went after Scofield and Burrows. Honestly, it just became a joke. It wasn’t serious anymore. It quickly became a comedy routine.

The big reveal included some surprises, particularly Don Self and Michael Scofield. Self pretty much got what he deserved though. He screwed over everyone he could to get ahead, helping people only when his ass was in a sling.

And as for Scofield, he didn’t get to live long. It would seem that his tumor had returned. There was some blood that came out of his nose at the end, which makes me conclude the general’s doctors didn’t do as thorough of a job as they thought, or it just came back.

Whatever the case, I was okay with Scofield’s death. He sacrificed for everyone and eventually it was going to be his time, although I do admit that I would have liked to have seen he and Sara live happily ever after.

I’m disappointed by the decision to include the “Final Break” episodes as a separate DVD/Bluray. They are going to detail what happened in that four year gap. It’ll give specifics as to Michael’s condition and Sara’s stint in jail for killing Christina.

It seems like a huge money grab, which is all this series turned out to be. Two seasons would have been enough. Instead of giving us two great seasons, we got one tremendous season, followed by three fairly mediocre seasons. This show didn’t need to be this long.

Instead of reviewing each of the last two episodes individually like I usually would, I decided to just combine the two since I watched them back-to-back.

The intelligence of Christina came through quite clearly in the past two weeks. It’s clear where Michael gets his brains, and where Lincoln doesn’t. I thought the ‘revelation’ that Lincoln isn’t Michael’s brother was entirely unnecessary. It felt like something the writers scratched off a list of unresolved items that they wanted to take care of before the series concluded.

I wish that scene which had Christina overpowering Sara would have been a little more surprising, but the way Christina stole the gun from her was far too simple. It wasn’t convincing in the least bit.

Dominic Purcell as Lincoln Burrows, Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield

There was a lot of dialogue in “S.O.B.”, especially when Michael and Sara had Christina in their little apartment. Much of the dialogue was related to the annoying ‘Lincoln was adopted’ story, but I didn’t care for much of it. It just slowed down everything.

These two episodes had their moments to shine and did so rather well. There weren’t many disappointments in them. That doesn’t dismiss the fact that we had another ‘Lincoln getting set up for murder’ plot which was just ridiculous. It didn’t last very long and seemed completely unnecessary.

Christina’s greed could get the better part of her. Playing the Chinese against the Indians could backfire. The general was right about how this could turn into a global disaster. He’s not entirely crazy.

When all was said and done, Michael and Mahone had Scylla while Self was badly injured, Sara is being held by the general, and Lincoln has been shot by Christina. Now is Michael’s chance to out-smart his mother… if that is even possible. He’ll have two hours to figure it all out this Friday. This is a series finale I can’t wait for. It’s been a long time coming.

Prison Break has been a show of lots of ups and downs for me. The first season was nearly a perfectly executed season and it’s been all over the place ever since. A string of good episodes is usually followed by a string of mediocre ones and right now, we’re in the mediocre territory.

The rift between Lincoln and Michael goes against everything we’ve come to know about the two and is something that is just out of character. It isn’t like they’re trying to kill one another. They’re working with similar goals, but the means to achieving those goals has been a little different.

Robert Knepper as T-Bag

I nearly crapped my pants when I saw T-Bag at the Indian Embassy talking about elephants. I would have expected something a little more clever to come from the quick-thinking convict. Elephants just seemed like a ridiculous topic to bring up, but it did work for the most part. The guys managed to get in and out of the Embassy without anyone getting killed.

The biggest surprise to come out of “VS” was the fact that Sara tested positive for being pregnant. I guess one would imagine that she and Michael have had sex, but it’s not something that has really been shown. Their intimacy never seems to make it on television which makes it all the more surprising.

The introduction of Vincent Sandinsky was an interesting move. Vincent initially seemed like he may have been a totally innocent guy, but it became clear that he was much more than just a scientist going to a convention for a speech. It really raises the question: what are Vincent and Christine up to? And to be honest, I really haven’t figured it out yet.

“VS” was another good example of why I’ll always remember Prison Break for the action and excitement. There was a lot of it, all throughout the episode. The show is rarely ever boring, but the Michael vs Lincoln story is just not working for me.

Wow. It’s hard to believe Fox even bothered to continue airing this show. Prison Break has been off the air since December, for crying out loud and they’re finally bringing it back now that Terminator has run its course.

It was a smart move to re-air episode sixteen prior to this one because it’s frankly been a very long time since the show has been on television that much of the story isn’t quite in the front of my mind.

After escaping from the general’s little retreat, Michael and Sara were on the run for quite a bit of time in this episode, trying to get away from people who work for the general as well as Michael’s mother.

Dominic Purcell as Lincoln, Kathleen Quinlan as Christina

The episode title gives away the fact that the mother of Michael and Lincoln had quite a big role in the episode. She’s a strong character, but I can’t help but think that she has a lot of work to do and her boys are now in her way.

The conversation between Lincoln and his mother was pretty simple. She lied through her teeth (convincingly, I might add) that she wanted to get rid of the general and really change the way things were done at the company. Gone would be the days of savagery.

Judging by what Bagwell, Mahone, and Self discovered, mommy dearest may not have peace on her mind after all. The boys found a nice stash of automatic weapons and special coded security keys that would presumably help the users take over the company.

The ending was intriguing with Lincoln about to be shot. I seriously doubt he will be killed. I don’t see Lincoln being put down by his mother, although I wouldn’t mind seeing it happen. He’s a very one dimensional character and is one of my least favorite characters on any TV show.

All that being said, I thought “The Mother Lode” did do a decent job of setting up the rest of the season. There was suspense, intrigue, action… all things you expect in an episode of Prison Break.

Following the Scylla holder, Lincoln Burrows finds himself working alongside with Gretchen, Don Self, T-Bag, and eventually Alexander Mahone. There was plenty of tension amongst this little group. No one really trusts one another and there’s quite a bit of pressure on each of them to get Scylla back. They get very close at one point, only to get set up. Lincoln almost gets shot within the first few minutes of the episode, making for an exciting setup to the episode.

While Lincoln and his new “friends” were busy in Miami, Sara Tancredi was put in a hotel by the general. She’s understandably restless. Whenever she’s not around Michael, she seems to get this way. It only gets irritating once in a while. Michael is being held 60 miles out of L.A. in a little house in the wilderness. The company is trying to recruit him to join. The doctor doing the recruiting introduces a very surprising revelation: Michael & Lincoln’s mother is still alive. This fact didn’t seem to weigh down the episode a whole lot, but Michael’s discussions with the doctor after this were boring as hell. I can see why he would not want to believe that his mother is still alive, but Michael’s conversation style has gotten decidedly boring recently. He never makes eye contact, always uses sarcasm, and generally irritates the hell out of me.

Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield

Michael’s not the only one who’s still bothering me. The big, hulking Lincoln has gotten even more one-dimensional. If he’s not running around, threatening people, he’s sleeping. And since he’s never shown sleeping, you get my point. Lincoln’s constant bullying and threatening has gotten old, as has much of the other stuff on the show. Honestly, these characters act unbelievably macho; there can’t possibly be a woman working in the show’s writing room.

After tracking down the Scylla buyer, it didn’t take Gretchen long to get over her head. I can’t believe she didn’t come to that meeting without some sort of body armor. The guy said exactly what he intended to do: shoot her in the chest and take his chances. And that’s exactly what he did. Gretchen got shot in the chest and was left to fend for herself. But it looks like the police will get to her before she dies.

The show ended with quite a shocker. The real buyer of Scylla is Lincoln & Michael’s mother. I honestly never saw that coming. I am glad that she was at least shown. She looks to be played by Kathleen Quinlan.

I’m sort of torn about how the show’s going to end. Prison Break is off for a bit with the new year approaching, but I can sort of already see the “why did you leave us” questions coming. I really hope that the writers bring about a satisfactory conclusion to Prison Break, but I don’t really see one at this point. The show’s gone on far longer than it should have.

“Going Under” continues in a string of episodes which hasn’t really pleased me. It’s bizarre to watch the show with Michael Scofield not in charge. He was surprisingly present in this episode even though he didn’t do a whole heck of a lot. He was subdued for the most part due to the things he had to take because of the operation, but he had an interesting dream.

I didn’t think I would ever see Charles Westmoreland again. I liked that character, but we haven’t seen him since the Fox River breakout. Charles continued with the mantra of episode which was “things are now always as they seem (or appear)”. Michael would eventually realize that SCYLLA isn’t necessarily the black book of The Company’s, but is something quite bigger. SCYLLA seems to contain a lot of scientific data which would be worth a hell of a lot of money and is why The Company wants it back.

Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield

Lincoln finally came clean to Michael once Michael came out of his surgery. Michael didn’t agree with the agreement Lincoln made with The Company, but he didn’t have much of a say in the matter. Lincoln’s just in the family business. I couldn’t believe the writers dragged their mother into this mess. Now Lincoln and Michael’s father AND mother both worked for The Company. Unbelievable. It’s only a matter of time before the family dog was also a member.

I wish I could have enjoyed that business with Alexander Mahone, but it’s hard to. I never cared one but for Mahone’s old partner and was disappointed when she turned on him like that. Alex isn’t my favorite character on the show, but I am finding it difficult to enjoy his scenes. There doesn’t seem to be a mission for him right now.

Sucre’s departure was odd. All of a sudden, he turns to Lincoln and tells him he’s leaving. It just felt strange timing. I’m frankly surprised that Sucre has lasted this long given the many close calls he’s had. I liked the character, but he’s been overshadowed so much in the past season or so by all of the other characters. I’m just glad he didn’t get killed off. There’s still an opportunity there to bring him back if the writers feel it is necessary.

“Going Under” was a big disappointment in my book. This show used to be known for surprising turns of events but nothing this week was very surprising. I have long suspected SCYLLA wasn’t just a black book but wasn’t sure what it really was. It seems like a very large hard drive and it must contain a lot of data. Prison Break is off for a bit, but I’m glad about it. I’m doubtful the writers will come up with a great ending to the series, but I would certainly love to see one. I’ve invested a lot of time into this show and it’s disappointing to see how it’s gone recently.

More lies, more back-stabbing, and more death. Yeah, it’s Prison Break alright. I’m finding it difficult to wait each week for each episode for some reason. I’m not sure if it’s because this is the final season and I’m hoping the writers bring the story to a satisfactory end or if it’s something else entirely, but I’m definitely glued to my seat this year.

The thing with Michael Scofield and Don Self at the end of last week’s episode felt a little too much like George W. Bush. Bush’s “bring it on” line to the terrorists was a ridiculous misstep on his part and Michael’s line of “then come and get it” was pretty much the same thing… more silly bravado than was necessary.

Sucre did a great job in hiding in that trunk. I find it difficult to believe that he wouldn’t be rolling around a little in there though. Surely Gretchen or Don would have heard him moving about.

Michael (Wentworth Miller, back) tracks down Self (Michael Rapaport, front)

While the medical crap was still present, it was still boring. This hasn’t even been in the story for all that long and I’m already tired of it. And to top it off, those injections continued with Sara warning Michael about them each time. I never thought it was a good idea to take them and they didn’t seem to help a whole heck of a lot.

Of all the business that went on, I was most interested in T-Bag and his housemates. They all got an unwelcome visitor when a bible salesman came a knocking one day. As soon as T-Bag saw the ring, he knew the guy was from the Company. He would later let him go in a very dramatic scene only to regret it. I’m a believer in trusting your instinct. It’s often right and T-Bag’s was right too. His second-guessing cost him dearly, but I’m not counting him out just yet. As long as T-Bag’s heart is beating, he’s one sneaky, dangerous SOB.

I was very disappointed with the Alex Mahone story. There’s no way on Earth I would have trusted the guy he was asked to trust. And Alex’s old partner’s hesitations pretty much told everything. Mahone looks to escape next week, but it’s a dangerous move, jumping out of a moving car like that. Mahone’s not as smart as I thought he was.

General’s book entitled Tombstone II had me intrigued towards the end. I wonder if it has something to do with Michael and Lincoln’s father. Whatever it is, I’m sure Lincoln will go along with the general, but I’m wondering how much help the general will give him. Lincoln and his friends are shrinking in numbers and with Self not on their side, they could use more help.

I’m looking forward to next week’s episode. I was shocked to see Westmoreland in the preview. I can’t believe he’s back on the show. It’s not a bad thing, mind you; I just hope he’s used in a worthy manner.

In retrospect, my rating of an 8.7 for the previous episode was a little high. Truth is, I’m not all that pleased with the Self turning on everyone. It wasn’t that surprising and I can’t possibly see how this new twist is going to make the show any more compelling.

Once Lincoln Burrows got caught by the feds, I was hoping the feds would actually listen to him and come to the realization that Self turned on everyone. I couldn’t bear the idea of the feds pursuing Michael and company all over again. It would have been a truly lame story. But the writers didn’t abandon that idea entirely. There was a moment where the feds turned on Michael and Lincoln and tried to bury any evidence of the operation as it wasn’t approved by congress and would have gotten a senator and the DHS agent some serious jail time.

Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies, L) takes care of Michael (Wentworth Miller, R)

The drama around the Company is heating up with the general killing one of the card holders when he questioned the general very openly and persistently. It wasn’t too surprising that the general killed him; it served as a message to the others.

I’m having a little trouble buying the idea that Gretchen cares about her daughter. The threats by Self and T-Bag don’t really bother me so much. I feel for the daughter and Gretchen’s sister than Gretchen herself. She deserves to be in the position she happens to be in.

Don Self wasn’t feeling quite himself when he learned that part of Scylla was missing. It was taken by Michael before the exchange and it’s a good thing that he did what he did. It’s hard to say what Self will do if/when he manages to sell Scylla. Now that he knows that Scofield has the missing piece, it looks like Self is about to go to war with Scofield. I wasn’t too impressed by the preview of next week though. I prefer strategy and mind games more than raw firepower.

Prison Break picked up right where it left off last week with the general and his security meeting Michael in the room containing Scylla. The general was quite smug at first but quickly changed his tune once he realized what Michael Scofield and his friends had been up to. They managed to unlock a hard drive from Scylla and escaped the complex after Sara took the general’s daughter hostage.

The hostage situation played out quite well. Much of the attention remained with the men. There was a lot of posturing. The general let it be known that Lincoln & Michael’s father wasn’t merely a data analyst. He had a more important role within The Company.

Michael (Wentworth Miller, R) faces off with General Krantz (Leon Russom, L)

Gretchen and T-Bag turned things up a notch at GATE when the boss noticed a gun. The two criminals immediately went into action, moving everyone into one office and waiting to hear from Scofield. Although T-Bag and Gretchen didn’t get killed, T-Bag did get captured by the undercover FBI agent, T-Bag’s secretary.

Everything went well until the team’s meeting with Agent Don Self. I don’t know what it was, but as soon as Self handed Michael that envelope of papers, I wanted Michael to open the envelope to check everything out. There was certainly something wrong here. I knew that Self was only looking out for himself (pun intended). It took the gang a little while to figure it out.

I felt bad for the guys after going to the lengths in which they did for all of this. They ended up getting shafted by a guy who seems to only want money. He doesn’t seem to be working with The Company; he just wants cash. The plot twist was nice, but I have to admit that the apparent motive behind Self’s turn is incredibly boring. Sorry, but I can’t get behind another lame story about greed.

This was otherwise a very good episode. Prison Break only has another dozen or so episodes to wrap up its series if you listen to the things that are being said about Fox’s plans for the show.

“Quiet Riot” is an episode much different from most of the Prison Break episodes. Typically, the episodes are full of plenty of action, but this episode had a much slower pace. And this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, mind you.

Last week’s episode let it be known that Michael would be having surgery very soon, but this obviously interferes with everyone else’s plans of getting to Scylla. I wasn’t surprised when Michael ultimately pulled out of the arrangements for surgery, though I did like his mention of calling in sick, when talking to Sara about the situation.

Amaury Nolasco as Sucre

The team got valuable video footage of the Scylla complex, making their break-in look relatively routine. What I liked most about those break-in scenes was the fact that there was little to no noise. So much of this show is all about guns going off, tires screeching, characters yelling at one another, etc. It’s a very nice change for once. It was a very peaceful, albeit tense episode.

I wasn’t entirely sure how T-Bag was going to handle his receptionist, but he and Gretchen pulled a fast one on her and Don Self. They had to get the buyer to help out with their plan, but it seemed to go very well. They’re out of the way for now, but I hope neither of them gets killed just yet.

The intensity of the episode was great. I really enjoyed this episode. My biggest complaint is with Gretchen’s lame attempt at getting the general’s card. My gosh. It’s hard to believe that the general would actually fall for that. It makes Gretchen out to look rather dumb in my opinion. It’s not a move characteristic of the Gretchen we all know. Still, I like the way Prison Break is going.
