Lie to Me is a new series starring Tim Roth as Dr. Cal Lightman, the head of a private consulting company who helps determine if someone is lying or telling the truth. He works with a small group of co-workers, but really, it’s Roth’s character who is in control of everything around him.

In the pilot episode, they take on two cases. One is about a teenager who is accused of murdering his teacher and the other is about a congressman who is allegedly spending his Friday nights with escorts. The one with the teenager felt typical, but I loved the twist in the congressman’s story. I won’t spoil anything in case you haven’t seen it yet.

I wasn’t especially looking forward to yet another cop show, but Lie to Me is a bit different because while the investigators have some of the same sources as the police do, they try to determine if someone is being truthful by reading their body language. It’s not a huge leap from traditional cop shows, but I feel it’s enough of a change to keep it interesting.

I don’t anticipate reviewing Lie to Me on a regular basis, but I do intend to watch the series weekly and I would definitely recommend it to others.
