Fringe – S03E15 – Subject 13 Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

With all eyes being placed on Fringe's fluctuating ratings, you'd think the writers would work on putting together some top-notch episodes. Instead of a greatness, we got an average filler episode at best with "Subject 13." Kudos to the team for bringing back the classic opening and dropping in some obvious hints at 1980s technology. The geek side of me appreciated those tidbits. That being said, I don't appreciate the incredibly soft picture used on the flashback segments. In this case, ... Read More

What appeared to be an interesting episode about ghosts turned into an episode about a wonderful love story. The science fiction elements of the series tend vastly overshadow the love story present in the series between Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson). Much like the struggle between the two universes we're familiar with, the struggle of which aspect of the show takes center stage can be a little frustrating, as it tends to shift on an episode-to-episode ... Fringe – S03E13 – Immortality Review

With last week's episode of Fringe, it became clear that the other Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) did a good job of using her time. Despite being able to see and feel his true Olivia, Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) still has feelings for the other one. As I pointed out, intimacy is something that's often overlooked in relationships. The diaries left behind by the so-called "Fauxlivia" indicate she did actually develop genuine feelings for Peter. Upon reading that, Olivia said she ... Read More

After the previous episode's revelation that William Bell was among those interested in copies of the book about the first people, I think we all got a little more information this week, but really, we've got more new questions than answers at this point. Seeing Sam (Kevin Corrigan), the bowling alley manager, again was a surprise. We haven't seen him since his training of Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv). Sam turns out to be a lot more interesting than I expected. ... Read More

Fringe – S03E11 – Reciprocity Review

An unexpected encounter with Walternate's (John Noble) doomsday device changed Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) for the worse in the eleventh episode of the season. The changes made to Peter made his demeanor noticeably different and I felt it negatively affected the episode. After getting rattled by coming too close to the device, Peter wasn't quite himself from that point on. It was clear early on in "Reciprocity" Peter's demeanor had changed. He became more aggressive and short tempered around people. ... Read More

Fringe – S03E10 – The Firefly Review

The irony of Christopher Lloyd being involved with an episode dealing with time travel is not lost on me and I suspect it was intentional given his participation in one of the greatest movie trilogies ever: Back to the Future. I still love going back to the DVDs to see Marty McFly and Doc Brown. After going some time without an episode dealing with Observers, it felt like a great opportunity to touch upon the subject. "The Firefly" quickly became one ... Read More

Fringe – S03E09 – Marionette Review

Well I think you'd have to be crazy to expect Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter (Joshua Jackson) to get together right away. They were both put through a lot. Anna Torv can play a pretty stoic Olivia sometimes, but there's no question that Olivia was finding it hard to get back to her life after her doppleganger assumed it for so long, even sharing her bed with Peter. Fringe's writers have developed a fine knack for putting together episodes that draw ... Read More

Fringe – S03E08 – Entrada Review

"Entrada" is definitely the episode we've all been waiting for. Olivia (Anna Torv) is now back home where she belongs. It's been a long time coming too. We were able to see a softer side of Broyles (Lance Reddick) during this episode and in last week's as well. He was thankful for what Olivia did to save his boy's life and he certainly took a leap of faith by ultimately sacrificing himself to get her home. Though ... Read More

Fringe – S03E07 – The Abducted Review

Now that was an episode! The opening scene with the mother telling her boy that there was no monster in his room reminded me of something from The CW's Supernatural. A doctor using the life force from children to keep himself alive doesn't seem that unusual when you consider the fact that it's been touched upon by Fringe and other shows in the past. I did like that the doctor wasn't in on the crime by himself. I just figured ... Read More

Fringe – S03E06 – 6955 kHz Review

Categories: Episode Reviews

I initially thought "6955 kHz" was going to be a standalone episode when it began. It just had that feel to me. I have to give the writers credit for doing a fine job of melding it into the Fringe story. The investigation had our cast of characters getting involved into the unusual idea of number stations, something I've heard about before, but something I've never bothered to read much about. One of the early surprises was the inclusion of ... Read More
