I didn’t get around to writing a review of last week’s episode, but I couldn’t resist talking about tonight’s all-new episode featuring one of the craziest twists Survivor has ever seen and let’s face it: Survivor has had its fair share of surprises.
Before we talk about the wild twists that took place later in the episode, let’s talk about Coach for a minute. This guy continues to amaze me. I’m blown away by the fact that no one has tried to take him down. It makes that “temporary player” comment made by Christine at the start of the game look a little silly. Coach actually seems to be running his tribe and most of the people seem to like him.
I say “most” because clearly there are some issues. Sophie took issue privately with Coach’s praying to God for help in finding the hidden immunity idol when she knew he already had it in his possession. I agree with her, but Coach’s approach proved quite impressive. Everything he did managed to get everyone on-board and upbeat about their odds of winning.

Now let’s get to the twist that I’m sure will have everyone talking: Ozzy voluntarily going to Redemption Island to take out Christine like a Green Beret looking to take down an evil dictator. While it’s courageous if there is a merge, it’s incredibly risky.
Ozzy can lose. If he does lose, he’s done and his tribe will have a terrible shot of surviving the merge. And then there’s the dependence on there being a merge right away. If the merge doesn’t happen right away, the tribe will struggle in his absence. I respect what Ozzy did, but I think it’s a tremendous risk. Whatever happens next is going to make for some very exciting television.
By the way, kudos to the two tribes for their usage of the paint to create their warrior masks. They were beautiful, colorful, and in case of some of the guys who actually painted bikinis on themselves, hilarious.
