Just when you get worried about Person of Interest becoming too much like the typical “case of the week” police drama, the show comes up with a creative twist to keep things interesting. Like most viewers, I thought the doctor was going to be your standard damsel in distress, but that’s not where they went with it and I was pleasantly surprised by the course the story took.
Early on in the episode, we got to learn a little bit about Finch (Michael Emerson). We learned he had some of his vertebrae fused 1-1.5 years ago. Presumably it was in some sort of terrible accident. I can’t help but theorize that his life was spared while someone close to him (wife, sister, etc) died from head trauma or something equally tragic. Finch is a very interesting character right now. I think the writers are doing a nice job of not revealing too much about Finch.

To see Dr. Megan Tillman (Linda Cardellini) wasn’t just working the typical shift of work at the hospital, it took me by surprise. It immediately made me think she had a double life. I didn’t think she was a Dexter in the making… sort of. For the doctor, she was simply out to get revenge for what happened years ago. Killing a rapist wouldn’t be anything to bat an eye over for Dexter, but this chick wasn’t a hardcore killer.
Reese (Jim Caviezel) probably had it right when he talked her down. Odds are her conscious would just destroy her. A doctor who can’t focus on her work could actually cost people their lives. So it wouldn’t just affect the doctor.
Just as impressive as the story of the doctor was the way Reese managed to get all of the information he needed and handle the situation with his dirty cop friend, Detective Fusco (Kevin Chapman). Getting a second cop was not only useful to gain intel on one of Reese’s new enemies, but it proved helpful when Fusco was able to get transferred to presumably disrupt Detective Carter’s (Taraji P. Henson) progress as she presses on with her investigation into Reese. I didn’t think that step was entirely necessary to be honest. She’s getting closer, but not by much. She hasn’t gotten had any big breaks.
