The Super Bowl has proven to be a unique television event for sports fans. It garners the worldwide attention of hundreds of millions of people. With that kind of viewership, advertisers with deep pockets have used the annual game as a way to promote their brand and put a smile on our face. This year, the advertisers had to pay a cool $3 million for a 30-second ad and here’s my top five ads from this year’s advertisement bowl.

No. 5 – NFL – The Best Fans

I don’t often think of the NFL as having memorable commercials, but the clever use of editing and CGI to alter some of the most memorable television shows in history to show the characters’ support of the league was brilliant.

No. 4 – Audi – Release the Hounds

In this unusual prison, home to wealthy upper class folk, a prison break erupts, only to be quieted by the soothing sounds of Kenny G. Kudos to the artist for having a sense of humor and actually getting involved in the commercial.

No. 3 – Doritos – House Sitting

In this hysterical commercial from Doritos, one friend house sits for another and pure chaos ensues when he realizes everything around him has died. Using Dorito crumbs, the housesitter brings everything back to life, even a dead person.

No. 2 – Bridgestone – Carma

After I first saw this commercial, I couldn’t even remember what was being advertised. I suppose that’s a bad thing in the advertising business, but I thought the commercial was really cute with the little beaver returning the life-saving favor.

No. 1 – Volkswagen – The Force

Pure awesome! I got an early look at this commercial thanks to my following of Damon Lindelof on Twitter. In this Star Wars themed commercial, a young boy dresses as the evil Darth Vader and tries to use “The Force” to manipulate things around the house, only to be surprised when he comes to the Volkswagen. This commercial is clever and absolutely adorable. The kid’s reaction was perfect.

What did you think of these commercials? What were your favorites?
