I admit that when I learned that Nestor Carbonell was going to be on PSYCH, I was super PSYCHed. I’ve come to absolutely adore him on Lost over the past few years. His acting brilliance was proudly displayed on Lost in several episodes. Nestor’s transition to a multi-episode stint on PSYCH seemed to be a flawless one. I thought he was really good in “Shawn 2.0.”

Nestor Carbonell played Declan Rand, an acclaimed psychic who offered his services to the Santa Barbara Police Department after a surprising murder. Declan quickly began to show up Shawn Spencer (James Roday), but it wasn’t the first time this has happened. It’s one of the few issues I have with this episode… that portion of the plot isn’t original. Shawn’s been challenged by other supposed psychics before.

While I have that issue regarding Declan and the fact that the murder plot was a little boring, the show was quickly redeemed in my eyes when Declan showed an interest in Juliet (Maggie Lawson). It took the show to a whole new level at that point.

It never made sense to me why Shawn and Juliet had gotten close after Shawn’s break-up with Abigail Lytar (Rachael Leigh Cook). There were some close moments as Shawn and Abigail started dating, most notably that amazing scene in the movie theatre. Ever since then, it’s been strictly business between them and it’s always bothered me.

Now that Declan is making his move, it looks like Shawn is jealous once again. I’m curious to see where this goes in the future. I always did like the idea of Shawn and Juliet winding up together. It’s been a little frustrating to watch lately, however.

By the way, am I the only one who loved Kurt Fuller as Woody, the coroner this week? The writers give Woodster some damn good lines sometimes, but I’d argue Woody’s writing was perfect this time around.
