Having been tricked by Gus (Dulé Hill) to help out on an environmental clean-up effort on the Channel Islands, Shawn (James Roday) was in for quite a surprise when a prison break took place. A group of prisoners out on detail overpowered their guard, Craig (Chi McBride), and tried to make their big escape, only to be foiled by Shawn and Gus.
There are times in which I wish the writers would toughen Gus up a little, but sometimes his weak moments are quite funny to watch. His seasickness became an issue aboard the ferry, although the speed of the sickness’ onset was greatly exaggerated.
I didn’t exactly love Chi McBride’s performance in this episode. I’ve come to expect great things from him over the years. Perhaps this show is a little out of his comfort zone. I don’t expect him to be a great character actor, however. He seems to do better in star roles which give him time to feel out his character a little more.

Kevin Alejandro was a good get for the casting director. I’m sure he’s a hot property after his time on True Blood and Southland. Kevin did a solid job as Northcutt.
There really isn’t a whole lot to talk about when reviewing “Ferry Tale.” It seemed pretty standard PSYCH fare, if not a little mediocre for them. What I was really surprised by was the new Young Shawn. Skyler Gisondo is now taking over the role after Liam James had it for almost the entire series run this far.
I suppose the replacement could be chalked up to child actors growing up. I noticed in some of the more recent episodes that Liam’s appearance had changed quite a bit. He seemed to hit puberty and aged quite a bit more than Carlos McCullers II, who plays Young Gus.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Liam James’ efforts in the flashback scenes of PSYCH. He has shown to me that he’s a terrific young actor. I hope he does well with his career if he chooses to continue.
