Wow, it’s been a while. It seems like months since I’ve gotten caught up on the latest adventures of Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (DulĂ© Hill). I’ve been watching far too much drama and not enough comedy of late. If there’s ever one show I can count on to make me laugh, it’s PSYCH.
“Viagra Falls” centers on a pair of retired cops who were the go-to investigators back in the day. When the former police chief is found dead, the two come back to get to the bottom of their boss’ death. Carl Weathers (Floyd Boone) and William Devane (Don Peters) were terrific together. Both actors exuded a level of confidence in one another that was inspiring.
Seeing a crack investigating duo do their thing was also new for Shawn and Gus. I found it refreshing to see our boys get a laugh out of watching Boone and Peters act as silly as they do at times. They even have their own handshake, not unlike Shawn and Gus’ fist-bump.

William Devane and Carl Weathers
Something I’m sure some may have overlooked when looking back on this episode would have to be the generational difference. Things have clearly changed since Boone and Peters were on duty. Boone kept turning to Juliet (Maggie Lawson), expecting her to make him coffee and run errands. It was nice to see Juliet earn Boone’s respect eventually. We’ve all known Juliet can hold her own, but it’s nice to see old timers like Boone to respect what she can do.
I didn’t feel “Viagra Falls” had a whole lot of originality in the plot, but I found it to work really well. Shawn and Gus were in constant competition with the former detectives and I found that to be a lot of fun to watch. Carlton Lassiter’s (Timothy Omundson) relative lack of inclusion in this episode was easily made up for the joke about finding a name for his gun… Thunderstick. Also, kudos to the writers for bringing back Gus’ ability to open a padlock without knowing the combination. I had almost forgotten about that.
