With Dexter (Michael C. Hall) looking to get his life in a more stable situation, it came as no surprise that it should get a little rocky first. A meeting with the FBI was quickly followed by a series of problems with the kids. Astor (Christina Robinson) has been itching to get back “home”, but Dexter wants nothing to do with that place following Rita’s (Julie Benz) death and he doesn’t want the kids there either.

I can understand Astor’s feelings towards Dexter, but it’s hardly fair. Then again Astor is still a child and children tend to see things differently. Also, she’s the one going through the grief of having losing the most important person in her life.

Dexter did the right thing to make sure Astor and Cody (Preston Bailey) stay together. As he later alluded to in the episode, he and Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) were able to get through a lot of difficult times together.

Masuka was great this week. With Dex out of the office, he had to handle a larger case load and really had to do all of the blood work Dexter does. It led to a hilarious moment where a piece of brain fell from the ceiling and onto his shoulder. I nearly died watching that.

To focus on other things, Dexter began to follow a local sanitation worker who Dexter pinned to a moving truck which had blood in it. It was interesting that this Fowler character wasn’t just your ordinary dead animal cleanup worker. He’s got a dark side that Dexter’s all too familiar with. The only question is how many women has this guy killed.

I’m somewhat torn on the issue of Boyd Fowler. We saw several interesting images of him disposing of the remains and going through his trophy collection. I’m wondering if Dex will dispose of Boyd in the following episode or if this character is going to be around for a while. I kind of miss the weekly stalks. I’ve grown accustomed to Dexter going up against a monster of the season. I’m wondering if that so-called monster is a cop who gets to close in Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington).

“Hello, Bandit” was another good episode to setup the season. I’m interested to see where Debra’s murder investigation goes with that rookie cop butting in with her ideas. It was smart to get the kids out of the show for a spell, at least for the time being. Being around Dexter isn’t going to help them, especially Astor.
