“Shawn & Gus in Drag (Racing)” had me laughing right from the start. The evening’s racing theme was ripe for riffing on. The movie Point Break had several references, some of which I got and some I didn’t. Point Break’s not a movie I watch often enough and PSYCH’s references can be obscure at times.

Lassiter’s inability to bring down a bunch of street racing punks gave Shawn and Gus an opening and they capitalized on it. They wanted to not only show up Lassiter, but prove themselves to Henry in order to get more cases. That’s something Shawn and Gus need to remember this season since Henry is the one handing out consultant assignments.

Coming into the episode I had some doubts. And yet once I began to watch it, I laughed at just about every scene. The rapid-fire approach PSYCH implements was impeccable this week. It made the episode a lot more entertaining.

Adam Rodriguez as Tommy Nix

Adam Rodriguez as Tommy Nix

Seeing CSI: Miami’s Adam Rodriguez as the principal bad guy was a surprise. Rodriguez had his moments, but he just isn’t believable as a villain. He doesn’t have the range for this type of role. Even when his character had a gun I didn’t find him to be intimidating.

It’s amazing that after four entire seasons I still get a kick out of Shawn and Gus argue with one another over something as silly as nicknames. The duo like to give themselves nicknames and I always get a kick out of it. The debate over who got what nickname was stretched out quite a bit in “Shawn & Gus in Drag (Racing)”, but it was entertaining from start to end. I have to give Dule Hill and James Roday credit for their acting. They make PSYCH one of the funniest shows on all of television.

Rating: 8.2

Do what I do and watch this episode on iTunes. PSYCH looks fantastic in HD.
