I’ve been looking forward to a UFO episode for about a season now. PSYCH likes to dabble in the truly bizarre and it doesn’t get much stranger than UFOs. Shawn and Gus always seem to have a good time trying to debunk stuff like this, but in this case, they both happen to believe in UFOs. That fact made this episode all the more entertaining.
Since Shawn and Gus have always had an interest in the subject of UFOs, it didn’t come by any surprise that they’d take on the case of a UFO abduction. Henry Spencer was adamant they not get too involved because it would make them both look bad and would come back to reflect poorly on the SBPD for hiring them. Henry told the boys to tread lightly and not embarrass anyone.
One of the funnier scenes in the episode was the first visit with Dennis (Freddie Prinze Jr.). Shawn and Gus’ childhood friend made a ton of money in the software business and now has a sweet home and a hot wife. He also turned out to be a closet nerd. In order to hook up with his wife, he knew he had to drop the nerd stuff and try to become a ‘normal’ guy. Dennis’ secret nerd lair was a clever twist to the episode.

Dennis had access to private satellites and they allowed him to check the area for any unusual activity in the sky during the night of the alleged UFO abduction. This scene made the story all the more intriguing when it appeared a UFO did in fact fly over the big-shot lawyer’s house that night.
As the investigation went along, it became clear a UFO wasn’t to blame for the disappearance of the lawyer’s assistant. Dennis helped Shawn and Gus find out the truth and what a disappointment it was. An oil discovery was pretty lame in comparison to the possibility of a real UFO abduction.
The best twist of the night came at the end when Dennis’ wife, Molly, revealed she was a nerd too. Sure, it was a cheesy ending, but I actually liked it. It’s not often PSYCH has a cheesy love story thrown into an episode. I definitely approve of that once in a while.
Rating: 7.0
Do what I do and get this episode on iTunes. PSYCH looks fantastic in HD.
