Watching our four main characters work in different teams to solve a murder was an interesting new change on the show. There were some tense moments as everyone tried to find a way to work with one another. Personalities clashed right before our eyes, only for everything to go back to how they should be half-way through the episode.
Watching Shawn and Juliet work together was nowhere near the treat it was to see Gus and Lassiter work together. They definitely had their moments as a team. The dancing scenes were funny. I wasn’t very surprised by Lassiter’s reluctance to dancing. Lassiter’s a rather macho character and dancing isn’t generally considered to be very masculine. Using dance as a way to control his breathing and focus on the task at hand was mildly amusing to watch, but I knew there was no way Lassiter was going to adopt it for future cases. There’s no way for him to hide that activity. He’d become a laughing stock at the SBPD.
Dule Hill, Timothy Omundson
There was a scene in “Feet, Don’t Kill Me Now” which reminded me of one of my all-time favorite PSYCH moments. It was back in “From the Earth to Starbucks” where Shawn beat Gus to the observatory and used a uniform to surprise him. Well in this episode, Shawn did essentially the same thing and beat Gus to the pharmaceutical lab. The surprise on Gus’ face was terrific.
I have to give credit to Dule Hill and Tim Omundson for their willingness to take on tap dancing for this episode. I don’t know if either actors were familiar with the style, but I thought they did a good job of taking it on in the episode. It wasn’t that long ago that I saw a tap dancing documentary featuring Gregory Hines on television. The timing was interesting.
I didn’t think that highly of this episode overall, however. This felt like a lackluster episode. The murder plot was about as generic as it could get and the lighter moments just weren’t enough to pull this episode up.
Rating: 7.0
Do what I do and get this episode on iTunes. PSYCH looks fantastic in HD.
