Well with the way this episode went, I think we wouldn’t mind seeing Dexter get more time away from the family. “Dex Takes a Holiday” was a great episode and it looks like this is the episode that’s going to start kicking things into full gear.

After Dexter got caught taking out the neighbor’s light, Rita chalks it up to just him being a bit stressed out and decides to give Dexter a two day vacation while she takes the kids to a wedding.  Dexter’s way of spending a vacation is to satisfy his dark passenger and his victim was a very interesting one.  I have to say that whenever Dexter goes after a female, it’s always pretty interesting because it really shows that Dexter isn’t biased and makes him look more like a monster.

Dexter’s victim this time was Zoey, a cop who murdered her daughter and her husband, but framed someone else for the crime. When we meet Zoey, she’s quite charming and you can tell that there’s something no good about her when we see her continue to hit on Dexter even after he tells her he’s married.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen Dexter do some serious detective work to find out whether his potential victim is guilty or not and this one took a lot of work. In fact, there were times where I thought maybe she wasn’t guilty. It was nice to have someone get the upper hand on Dexter because she was stalking him before he even got a chance to stalk her.

DEXTER (Season 4)
John Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell

When Zoey finds out that Dexter has been looking into her case, she uses her authority as a cop and threatens him and his family. This leads to a scene for a brief moment where Dexter almost gives up on Zoey to protect his family.  The rest of how everything played was awesome as Dexter made Zoey believe that she had control, while the whole time she’s doing exactly what he wants her to do.  I did think it was odd that Dexter would lure someone back to his home when anyone could walk in, but it didn’t take away from the little fight we got between the two.  I happen to love hand-to-hand fights on Dexter because they’re rare and when they do happen it really shows just how lethal Dexter is.

Dexter gets his girl and in the infamous kill scene, Dexter realizes that he loves his family and would actually risk them knowing his secret if it meant he wouldn’t lose them. This is one of those moments where a psychiatrist would say that Dexter had a breakthrough and it’s another step to Dexter becoming more human, which has been gradually happening since first season.

Dexter’s venture was awesome, but then we had Deb and her love triangle. Up until now, Deb and Lundy’s relationship had been platonic, but once Deb finds out that Lundy still has his eye for her, it doesn’t take her long to be back and his arms and his bed.  I personally had mixed feelings on getting the two back together, but it felt right, especially when the shocker of a ending had Deb and Lundy both get shot, even though I think Lundy got shot several times.  The Lundy and Deb reunion felt perfect because it really set us up for them to be separated by death. Unfortunately, this is another relationship that is going to mess up Deb and I’m seriously waiting for the season where Debra ends up being a lesbian because her record with men is horrible.

I’m assuming Lundy is dead, and to be honest, I’m quite sad, because I liked having him on the show. I could be wrong though. Now that Deb has been shot by The Trinity Killer, this might be what is needed for Dexter to start on his path to The Trinity Killer.

John Lithgow is really doing a good job with his role and the writers are doing a good job of showing us these little clips that show just what type of person The Trinity Killer is. We can assume that all serial killers are insane, but The Trinity Killer might be the worst. He seems to have a thing about torturing himself; goading a guy to punch him, taking burning hot showers. I’m eagerly waiting an episode where we get more background on this guy, because it’s probably going to be some pretty interesting stuff.

There was a lot packed into this episode, Quinn breaking up with the reporter might be interesting, and LaGuerta and Batista’s relationship was actually interesting this episode, especially how the two came to Dexter for advice.

There’s was a lot to like about this episode and the ending definitely has us wanting to see what happens next. This season of Dexter has been good, but I think this is the point where it’s going to get pretty awesome. Here we go; it should be one hell of a ride!
