In “Remains to Be Seen” Dexter finds himself waking up with a concussion and the whereabouts of Benito Gomez’s body unknown. This seemed like it would be another episode of Dexter leaving a body somewhere and trying to get to it before anyone else and it was one of those. What made this type of episode different from the last time that Dexter had to get to a body was the fact that he had no idea where he left it this time. It was unclear why Dexter couldn’t remember what he did with the body because we’re not sure if it was from the concussion he suffered from the crash or if he just forgot to protect himself like he did with his mother. It’s one of the few times where the writers didn’t really make it clear.
Dexter wasn’t alone at least. He had assistance from Harry, who served as a reminder to Dexter that he may have taken on more than he can handle with being a dad, a husband, and trying to satisfy his dark passenger at the same time. He also served as a way for Dexter to find where he put the body. I love Dexter, but it was hard to get emotionally attached to Dexter looking for this body and I think it’s because of that big gap in between the time when Dexter did his ritual and getting the medication last episode. It actually felt confusing at the beginning until I realized that there’s this big gap. I’m not necessarily a fan of being confused like this and the writers leaving out stuff like this, but then again we’re supposed to be seeing the episode through Dexter’s eyes and mind, so it does make sense.
The other problem with this was that I was never afraid that Dexter was going to get caught and that might be due to the fact that the writers have had Dexter survive the worst and after the last three seasons, it’s going to be hard to make us think that Dexter is going to be caught, but that’s the problem when you create the perfect serial killer.
Michael C. Hall was great thoughout once again and he seems to be really taking Dexter through a couple of different emotions this season, plus it’s been nice to see Dexter off his game, drinking Red Bulls to stay awake through the night.

Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan and Julie Benz as Rita Morgan
We had the Trinity Killer scoping out who his next victim is and while he hasn’t become as interesting as say the Ice Truck killer, John Lithgow really brings the creepy factor to this character. When they have killers on this show, they always serve as reminders of just how bad Dexter could have turned out if he didn’t have Harry’s code.
I hope that this really is the end of Debra and Lundy because I have to tell you I was getting a bit scared that Debra was going to mess up a perfectly good relationship. Dexter isn’t usually one for pulling off soap opera antics like this so hopefully this episode really does signify the end of this relationship. However, I’ll admit it was fun watching Lundy and Debra interview a suspect.
There were other small things in this episode like LaGuerta and Batista drama which had LaGuerta take Batista of his case. It feels a bit soon to be having these types of problems and it would have been a bit soon to have the two break it off also, but it looks like things will stay normal for now. So far the writers are leaving me iffy on this relationship. I’m not sure if I like the idea of them being together. Sometimes the acting between the two just feels a bit too forced and not natural.
We’re not sure what the writers are doing with Quinn, but he did two things wrong. One was mouthing off to that reporter from last episode, and the second was a big one when Dexter saw him stealing money from a safe of a house they were investigating. Last season Quinn’s morality was questioned and it was never seen through if Quinn’s devious behavior comes back. There might be some truth to what that agent talked about last season. It was funny to see him change his attitude about Dexter and try to befriend him, only to be blown off. We’ll have to see where this Dexter and Quinn relationship goes this season because there definitely seems to be some build up of something between the two.
This was a slow episode and it all felt like a mystery episode where we figure out what Dexter did last episode, the only problem was that it was hard to follow along when we had little evidence to go off of ourselves. Now that Dexter might get a little sleep, hopefully we’ll get back to a normal Dexter; one that isn’t high off of Red Bull.
