Fringe’s “Night of Desirable Objects” brought back memories of The X-Files, the very series Fringe has been compared to most since its debut. I have to tell you that the producers don’t seem to be making bold attempts to keep viewers from drawing comparisons to the X-Files series. This was very another “monster of the week” episode.
In this case, Peter, Olivia, and Walter were tasked with finding out why seven people had vanished from a town in Pennsylvania’s countryside. We did get to see one of the victims disappear, but the manner in which he disappeared was frankly predictable, even for this show.

While it wasn’t clear what the monster was initially, I had a pretty good idea of where things were going to as far as explaining it. There wasn’t a whole lot of originality here. I go back to The X-Files, a series which frankly did several episodes similar to this.
Olivia is slowly recovering from her accident. Walter dropped a few hints as to the fact that he knows what Olivia is going through. I’m thinking it’s because he experienced similar things when he got the other Peter from the other universe.
I can’t believe Olivia now has super hearing now. I hope this is short lived because I’ve just about had it with characters on TV with supernatural powers.
They’re really making Charlie Francis into one evil-looking guy. I don’t know how long he’s going to remain in the series since he appears to be suffering from a slow, agonizing death. He may hang in there for a while. I still get a kick out of seeing him use that typewriter, only for the typewriter to respond to what he typed.
