After watching, re-watching, and re-re-watching my PSYCH DVDs over the past several months, I was practically begging for this show to come back. It’s strange because there is a lot of good stuff on television right now, but there’s nothing on that is even in the same ballpark as PSYCH. It manages to be both serious (at times) and downright hilarious.

Shawn and Gus decided to take a little ski vacation in Canada, giving the country a big shout-out. They didn’t pull any punches with their promoting of Canada either. The very fact that the show is filmed in hockey-land was never lost on me.

While doing some skiing, Shawn and Gus recognized someone on the slopes. It proved to be an elusive art thief (Cary Elwes) that Lassiter had been trying to find for quite some time and here Shawn and Gus were just a few feet away from him.

In a hilarious game of cat and mouse, Shawn and Gus managed to always catch up with the thief, only for the thief to disappear before their very eyes. Shawn would eventually outsmart the crook and had him arrested for fraud. I never saw the little twist at the end coming, in all honesty.

It was really peculiar to have Shawn and Gus in a location without Lassiter, Juliet, and Chief Vick, but it didn’t take long to get just about everyone north of the border. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the stuff about Lassiter not being able to carry a weapon.

The dig at CBS’ The Mentalist was terrific. I really hated the promos for that series as it looked like a really bad ripoff of PSYCH and now the PSYCH writers have finally watched the show and realized what I’ve known since last August.

Having so much praise for this show is hardly new, but it’s not all roses now. The season premiere felt a little dull in execution. I don’t know if it’s because the cast and crew are rusty having been off for a while or if it’s something else. I’m excited to see the show back, nonetheless. PSYCH is the funniest series on cable.

BTW, this is the first season I’ve seen in high definition and it looks and sounds awesome! Kudos to my cable provider (Charter) who added USA Network, along others) just three days before the season of PSYCH premiered. Now if only we can get this show released on Blu-ray… USA, are you listening?
