This episode picks up at Kaito Nakamura’s funeral. Hiro is about to give his eulogy when he decides to go back in time and try to save his father. He returns just in the nick of time to watch Angela Petrelli slap his daddy. He takes his father for a little ride further back in the past to see his dead wife being buried. Hiro thought that it would change his mind about not wanting to be saved. He was trying to show him that he needed him. Kaito still didn’t listen and wanted Hiro to take him back. Hiro said no and bumped into himself. After having a meaningful talk with himself, he realized that he couldn’t change the past again and decided to let his father die the way it was written. Hiro did however discover who killed his father by freezing time when the killer tossed him off the building. It turned out to be Adam and Hiro knows that is his nemesis has returned.

That wasn’t the only surprise though. It looks like Matt Parkman is becoming the bastard the future showed us he will be. After a brief disagreement with Molly during breakfast, he made her return to the table and eat her cereal. He put the thought in her head to do this and it seemed like he enjoyed it. It wasn’t the last time he would try this either. He did it again with his partner and I guess boss. He had his boss give him 24 hours to talk to Angela and get her to confess the truth. He does that alright but not without a fight from that good old Petrelli woman. She lets him know that he is well on his way to being his father and by the end of this episode, he is having second thoughts.

Jack Coleman as H.R.G

He isn’t the only one having second thoughts about his decision. Mohinder is concerned that Bob is going to hurt H.R.G. and believes that H.R.G. isn’t the man Mohinder thinks he is. He keeps telling Mohinder about Ivan but it goes in one ear and out the other. Bob gives him a partner to keep him safe. His new partner happens to be his daughter Elle. Together, all three comes up with a plan to get Claire and not hurt H.R.G. in the process. Mohinder had to threaten them by quitting if they didn’t do it his way. This later proves to be a big mistake.

Meanwhile, H.R.G. is looking TO west for help. He wants to talk to west hoping that he can convince Claire to run away with them. He became so despite that he even asked Mohinder to help him. He couldn’t wait any longer and decided to venture on his own only to get picked up by West literally. They have a brief conversation in mid flight that made West fall in line with H.R.G.. When they reached the ground H.R.G. received a phone call from Mohinder stating the he found West. H.R.G. knew that was a lie because he had West in his grasp!

This leads to a showdown that got Elle captured by H.R.G. and Claire taking by Bob. H.R.G. was able to get Bob to exchange them but not before he was able to take her blood for research. In what was one of the best action sequences in this season, the painting of H.R.G. came true. Mohinder after realizing the man H.R.G. is shot him right in the eye! Claire had to witness her dad die right in front of her. It was a sad moment because H.R.G was one of the best characters on Heroes. His death we probably go down as one of the best death scenes in television history. They did leave some things open though with Elle and her father. It seems that bob was the one who tortured her and now it seems that she may have second thoughts of her own.

Overall this episode was a major step up in the right direction. I wonder how they are going to take these events further now that most of it has already played out. Is Elle going to remain on the crazy side or has she finally got some since? How bad will Mohinder feel in the morning after finding out people aren’t always what they seem? Is Matt really becoming his father? Will Peter and Adam save the world and how is Claire going to react when her father is still alive?!?!
