Everyone wonders “what if?” at some point. I do it all the time, trying to learn from my mistakes. Homer Simpson asked this when a local businessman was entered into Springfield’s Hall of Fame during a special ceremony.

Vance Connor, who was being inducted into the Hall of Fame, was voted Class President back in high school. Homer would have won that election if it weren’t for the principal’s actions. He overheard some of the jocks talking about electing Homer as a joke. The principal asked Carl and Lenny to get rid of the votes so that Vance would win instead of Homer.

Homer would later find out that he would have been rich and without kids thanks to a chance visit to Luigi’s Italian restaurant where an old man from Italy allowed Homer to see what his life would have been like by looking into the spaghetti sauce.

The plot didn’t seem all that original, much like King of the Hill. I suppose that after twenty years, it’s hard to do a retrospective episode and make it seem new. What I liked about the writing was the jokes. The comedy seemed a little more solid… a little more crisp, if you will. I enjoyed it, along with the new widescreen, HD format and new introduction sequence. I never thought I’d see The Simpsons in HD.
