This marks the very first King of the Hill episode to air in HD here in the U.S. I’ve heard a few have been redone for air in the U.K., but I’m glad the series in finally airing in HD. Animation doesn’t really need to be in HD, but I also like the fact that it’s widescreen. :)

After being pregnant for some time, Luanne (voiced by Brittany Murphy) gives birth in this episode. She had a baby girl whose name was revealed to be Gracie Margaret Kleinschmidt. But there was a fair amount of drama that got us to this point.

Luanne was under a lot of pressure, receiving tips from both Peggy Hill and Lucky’s sister, Myrna. They both claimed to be experts in parenting, but that’s a debatable issue. All of their children have issues, in my opinion.

The nursery from hell.

It doesn’t take long for Peggy and to begin bickering about how to raise a child. Myrna is a younger parent and has a lot of modern takes on it, while Peggy is old-school in her approach. This isn’t the best, however, as she suggests giving the baby some booze to help with the teething. Haha.

I wasn’t sure what to make of Myrna, but I was floored when I saw her idea of what a baby’s nursery should look like. Everything was black, white, and red. Oh, my, what a hideous room!

Bill Dauterive managed to get his own story for the evening, but it had a disappointing ending. Bill has become infatuated with the voice of a young woman who takes orders at the fast food restaurant. She can’t be seen. She works at a call center and handles all of the drive-thru orders. I thought this was a little silly, but I guess companies will outsource just about everything these days.

Anyway, Bill eventually makes the decision to drive to the call center to meet the woman of his dreams… or at least the voice of his dreams. The woman seems sweet and all, but Bill and the audience was in for a surprise when it’s revealed that the woman taking the orders is only seventeen years old. It was a very awkward meeting considering the notable age difference in the two.

King of the Hill isn’t a hysterical show, nor is it some sort of cutting edge show. I’ve always considered it to be a fun, family comedy so it’s hard to compare it to some of the other animated shows which try to be bold and all that jazz. I still enjoy the show and now I get to enjoy it in HD. ;)

Rating: 6.7
