“This Place Is Death” was an episode which encompassed a hell of a lot. We not only had stuff going on with Jin, but we also stayed with the developments off the island with Sun prepared to kill Ben.

I was pleased to see that the smoke monster returned, but I’m curious about that temple it was supposedly guarding. Is it a temple we already know about and I’m just not remembering it, or is it something completely new?

While I liked the scenes with Jin and his new-found French friends, I didn’t love them. No major story gaps were filled… it all seemed a little pointless, aside from the shock value of seeing a young Danielle Rousseau.

The reunion with Sawyer and the rest of the survivors was nice for Jin. He had a tough time wrapping his head around the time traveling thing and then wanted to know about his wife, naturally. I felt bad for him, but he seemed a little relaxed when he heard she made it out save and sound.

Back in Los Angeles, Ben’s plans of reuniting everyone fell apart. Kate and Sayid both bailed, with Ben only getting Sun and Jack to go with him to the church to meet with Daniel Faraday’s mother, Eloise Hawking. This wasn’t the least bit surprising. I theorized last week that she was his mother and that Charles Widmore is Faraday’s mother.

Speaking of no big surprise, I have to bring up Charlotte’s recollection of her being on the island previously. I’ve held this belief since shortly after the character was introduced. And this belief has only gotten stronger since.

The scenes with the well were my favorite of the night, by far. There’s something very intriguing about Christian. I have a lot of questions about him and how he’s involved with the island. I’m honestly stumped about that. I have zero theories about it, so every scene with him is something I look forward to. I loved how he chastised John Locke about not moving the island himself. Letting Ben do it was a huge mistake.

Lost is on a roll this year, but I wasn’t surprised by anything this week. I didn’t learn a whole heck of a lot, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad episode. It was still a solid episode.

  1. The temple was mentioned before, I believe. Ben had eluded to it last season–the others, I think, were supposedly heading to it.

  2. Was that it? I thought it was mentioned, but I guess nothing new or big was revealed about it. I guess they have another season and a half to delve into more detail about it…

  3. Yep. That be it. The smoke monster seems to be their big ace in the hole, so to speak. As you said…there’s still a whole other season to go to further explain.
