It’s episodes like this that are really what make It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia great. Taking the stupid things that these guys are involved in and somehow turning them into a complex plot is what this show does best. In “Mac bangs Dennis’ Mom”, the gang uses sex to play a dangerous game.

One of the great things about this show is how when something dramatic happens to the characters, it usually carries on to the next episode. We had Dee and Dennis apparently recovered from their crack addiction, but still doing “Charlie work” meaning that they’re doing all the janitorial work. Dennis in a bid to rid himself of the work comes up with a plan by taking the waitress that Charlie is in love with out on a date. Dennis threatens Charlie that if he doesn’t relieve him of his janitorial duties that he was going to have sex with the waitress.

Charlie gives in to the demands but starts a plan of his own that that ends up coming around full circle. Let’s see if I can get this right: Charlie convinces Mac to sleep with Dennis’ mom, Dennis see’s this and trys to sleep with Mac’s mom, but that doesn’t end up going the way he wanted, so he attempts to sleep with Charlie’s mom and that too ends up going south. The waitress sees Dennis going into the house of Charlie’s mom and assumes that he had sex with her, so the plan is for her to sleep with Charlie to get revenge on Dennis, only that doesn’t end up happening and the waitress ends up sleeping with Frank.

This plan was actually a really good plan and had it not been for Frank, Charlie might have finally gotten what he wanted. Sadly he doesn’t and it was funny, but sad at the same time when the waitress sleeping with Frank only seems to upset him. It was basically a waste for Charlie, because not only did he not get the girl, but didn’t gain anything in return.

Mac sleeping with Dennis’ mom ends up leaving him disappointed as he actually finds himself falling for her. It was a funny turnaround with Dennis’ mom using him instead of the other way around. It seemed like Mac was in love with her, but it might have also been because he couldn’t tell if she thought he was good in bed or not. It’s hard to figure out if it was his love or narcissism that drove him to act like that.

The star of this episode Dennis though. Watching him go around trying to sleep with Mac and Charlie’s mom, but getting rejected was funny. We almost saw him have somewhat of a breakdown after both women told him they didn’t think he was very attractive. Dee was technically the only one who gained anything; by helping Charlie, she was able to get her bartending job back.

Frank once again just seemed like he was there. Him going out on the date with the old woman was supposed to be funny, but it wasn’t and it’s already starting to get tiring watching him going through his post-divorce phase. I wish the writers would give him something more interesting to do or maybe involve him in the gang’s activities more, because right now he’s just in the episode, but not causing any kind of real impact.

This was a good episode that really shows what the writer’s can do when they use all the characters (excluding Frank). It was an ingenious plan that ultimately ended up not going the way any of the characters wanted (except Dee). This was a very funny episode and one of the more memorable episode that the series has had thus far.
