King of the Hill is really losing its steam. The show is no longer as funny as I remember it being and “Lost in Myspace” is a fine example of a show in decline.
With Fox owning Myspace, it seemed like an obvious product to promote through mocking it. I don’t think The Simpsons would ever do an entire show about a product like this, but with King of the Hill on its way out of production, it doesn’t have anything to lose apparently.

When it looks like Strickland Propane is losing customers to a competitor due to their use of Myspace, Mr. Strickland authorizes Donna to construct a Myspace page immediately. It seems successful, but they never really showed more than one or two customers at Strickland. I don’t think they did a very good job in selling the apparent success of the venture.
Everything naturally goes to hell when Donna gets carried away with the Internet and a flash mob is thrust upon Strickland, causing chaos and a serious beatdown to Mr. Stricklane. Donna gets fired and immediately seeks revenge. With the passwords to the Myspace in hand, Donna sabotages the business.
Again, the writers didn’t do a very good job of showing how much of an impact Myspace had on the business, so we don’t know how much they were hurt by Donna’s meddling. Hank and the employees ambush her at a restaurant and hash everything out, coming to a decent compromise. Donna comes back and helps Strickland with more of a creative approach rather than solely being the “boring” accountant.
All throughout this episode, I had a difficult time finding anything funny. The tiny subplot surrounding Dale, Bobby, and a pig was the only thing that brought a smile to my face. This was really a comedy show without comedy. Where are the good jokes, guys? It just seems like the writers have given up on this show and in turn the viewers have also left. It’s not surprising that this is the last season of King of the Hill.
