I’ve been waiting for an episode like this: Samcro goes vigilante. As I mentioned in my previous reviews, a show about vigilantes is something I’ve been hoping for, but Sons of Anarchy is mostly a show about a biker gang involved in gun running than vigilante justice.
The episode introduced us to the Irish who have been doing business with Samcro for quite a while. But with the warehouse fire, Samcro’s finding it difficult to work with the guns and they’re a little strapped for cash. Although they seem to deal with the IRA, there wasn’t a whole lot of focus put on this story. It was more about the rape of the thirteen year old daughter of a wealthy husband and wife. They own several very profitable businesses and are angry about what happened.

Ron Perlman as Clay Morrow
Clay and his Samcro buddies turn vigilante when the father asks them to bring the rapist to him. It seems like a straight forward request, but as it turns out, Clay has blackmail in mind. When they find the guilty party, they bring him to the father, but he chickens out when it comes to “justice,” so Clay takes care of business by removing the rapist’s testicles. Clay wants to make sure Charming doesn’t go Disney. If the land get sold, it brings in more development, more people, more cops, and more federal involvement. I was impressed by Clay in this episode. I didn’t realize how much of a big-picture guy he really is.
The confrontational scenes with Gemma, Tara, and Wendy continued this week, though they were much lighter this time around. Gemma didn’t take it easy on everyone, however. Ernest Darby got a little bit, as did the mother of the rape victim. Gemma’s one tough cookie, protecting her family from anything and everything is tough work.
With so much focus on Wendy and her obvious history with Jax, we haven’t learned much about Tara and her history with Jax. But we did learn that she had a relationship with a man back in Chicago, who is now in the ATF. Their relationship didn’t turn out so well and a restraining order was put on the man. Despite the RO, he’s come to Charming to investigate the Sons of Anarchy. I’m very interested in seeing how this all goes down between Agent Scott Kohn and Tara.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Juice’s taking the “vitamins” and falling asleep was funny. But what I enjoyed the most was seeing Samcro’s recruit following the deputy chief around Charming on that little moped. That was hysterical.
My biggest issue with “Fun Town” was the rapist. He was a relative nobody. He wasn’t the leader of the carnies, just some random guy that I don’t even recall seeing before the scene in which he was killed.
