Every season there’s that one show that makes you look at TV a bit differently. A show that’s truly worth watching, because it transports you to a different world and introduces you to great characters. It’s a show that delivers a plot that may seem totally out there, but works none the less. Simply put it’s a show that will entertain you. Ladies and Gentleman, Pushing Daisies is that show.

It’s not everyday or every season you come across a show like Pushing Daisies. It’s one of the boldest concept that we’ve ever seen on broadcast TV. Ned is the main character of out show. At a young age he realizes he has the power to bring people back to life when he touches them, but the downside is that if he touches the person again, he can’t bring them back again, he also can’t leave the person alive for longer then one minute or else someone within proximity dies. Ned uses his ability to help his friend Emerson Cod, a private investigator. Ned uses his powers to basically ask corpses who killed them so they can take the reward. Ned’s other job consists of owning a bakery where they make pies due to the fact that one of his fondest memories was of his mother making pies. One day Emerson brings another case in about woman that was found strangled to death and that there’s a $50,000 reward for anyone who can find the person that did it. Ned realizes that the woman is Chuck, his best friend from when they were young. In an attempt to collect the reward Ned brings Chuck back to life, but can’t bring himself to put her to death a second time. So Chuck comes back for a second time and Ned and Chuck seem like they have a connection, quite possibly love, but the tragic thing is the fact that Ned can’t touch her or else she’ll be dead again. Now Ned must figure out how he’s going to be able to love someone when he can’t even touch them.

The Pushing Daisies Cast

Believe me it sounds a lot wackier then how it’s presented on television. The world in which these characters live in is beautiful. The show is well shot and the scenery almost seems as if comes from a fairy tale book. It’s simply breathtaking to watch. The characters are each great in their own way and they really have chemistry about them. This show isn’t just a dramedy, it’s essentially a love story and the love story is evident in this episode. Ned knows that he can’t touch Chuck, but through the episode they do certain things like when Ned tells Emerson to give Chuck a hug and then Ned says “that’s from me” or when they are holding there own hands and pretending like they’re holding each other. It’s these things that make the love story so interesting and keeps us hoping that one day these two will be able to make physical contact. Ned and Chuck are a couple that I think will appeal to many fans. They’re like Romeo and Juliet torn by the fact that they can’t make physical contact.

Sure we have lots of questions concerning Ned’s ability that we’re hoping get clarified. Like the fact that Ned’s dog from when he was younger was still alive and still looked the same, so It seems like you stay the same age forever when you get brought back to life. Also it’s unclear if someone who get brought back to life can die any other way besides being touched by Ned again. I’m sure as the season goes on that these minor technicalities will be explained in due time though.

With a superb cast, beautiful camera work and possibly one of the most creative shows we’ve seen in sometime, Pushing Daisies is a must watch. The show is a bit dark for what ABC usually shows, but it’s all handled well, where it doesn’t come off as being disturbingly dark, but dark enough to let people know that this is a show about death. This is definitely one of the best pilots of the season and what I think will be one of the breakout shows this season. If you’re going to watch any new show this season. This is the show to watch.
