It was definitely good to have the original Ghost Hunters back on air.  Watching it’s younger sibling, Ghost Hunters International was, I’m sorry to say, beginning to wear on me.  So, with that said, how was the first episode after the so-called “mid-season break”?

The investigation at Iron Island, a town museum in Upstate New York, did yield some worthwhile evidence. In fact, there were some actual paranormal experiences!  Not just EVPs, but REAL happenings.  Or, at least, real-seeming.  I still trust that what the TAPS team catches…Well, I don’t think they’re pulling our strings when things DO happen.

Already, just by the previous uses of the property, it was clear the Iron Island museum would be interesting.  Beginning life as an Episcopal church way back in the mid-1800s, then becoming a funeral home in the 1950s, the building housing the current museum should have been ripe with activity.  Oh, and you can’t forget about the “30 boxes of unclaimed human remains” in the basement.  Right…

Also, this ex-Episcopal church was in, well, a strange way.  During its conversion to a funeral home, all of the original stained glass windows were covered up, along with the decorative rafters and chandeliers.  That made for some definite unique moments.  A building within a building.

Grant searches for odd noises…

However, the building aside, the woman that showed them around let Jay and Grant in on a personal tragedy.  One of the other women currently working at the museum had lost her son at a young age and he had been brought there when it was the funeral home.  The boys box of toys were even on display there. Talk about creepy.  But, a child’s spirit, of course, would be the least of TAPS concerns.

Though, with that said, perhaps the boy was still lingering about the place.  Because, during the interview with TAPS member Kristyn Gartland, about the very subject no less, the museum’s front door opened by itself.  And the thing was the door was supposedly locked.  Nobody was even around when it, then, unlocked itself and squeaked–squeaked!–open, like in a haunted house–or, in this case, a haunted ex-funeral home. That was indeed surprising!  Why do spirits like playing with doors, anyway?  But, during that interview, the door was heard opening and the cameraman immediately, on Kris William’s request, had swung round to it.  And there was nobody there.  I’d say that, indeed, was paranormal.

Of course, later, Jason and Grant actually were able to corner a spirit–perhaps, the shadow figure people have reported–up in the attic.  Honestly, I was worried when Grant dropped a rung lower on the ladder, because I thought surely he’d fall and break his neck. Luckily, I guess he’s used to ladders, being a plumber and all. Anyway.  If Grant had to  back away, you know something scary was up there.

Then, Tango went up and got the thing stirred up even more with his “Jersey talk”.  Way to go man!  Jay and Grant sure had a good laugh in the TAPS mobile command unit.  And later on during the findings there was, of course, the “leave me alone” EVP captured by Tango’s digital recorder while he was up in the attic. That was sort of creepty, too.

Over all, the Iron Island investigation was interesting. It had a some fun moments, and a few creepy ones. Like I said above, it’s just good to have the original show back.

Small town museum? Buffalo is NOT a small town. I read that and figured you were an ignorant fool whose opinion matters, NOT.

  2. I honestly didn’t remember it being in Buffalo when I wrote the review. And you’re right….I’m such an ignorant fool.
