Every now and then the MythBusters tackle a video they saw on the Internet, but this week they decided to dedicate entire show to these viral videos. Themed episodes are becoming more common these days, so this show’s concept should come to no surprise to anyone.
The primary myth the guys tested was whether or not someone could lift a cat using a bunch of fireman’s hoses. Because of the sheer size of this myth, it took Jamie and Adam quite a while to get this myth completed. After several tests and a lot of tinkering, the fellas were able to prove it is possible to lift the car, but it proved rather challenging. Removing the car’s engine proved a necessary step. I was impressed by the stability the car had once it was in the air. Sure, there were some ropes involved, but it was surprisingly stable.

The other myth Jamie and Adam worked on was the “invisible water” myth. A fella pumped some sort of heavy gas into a fish tank and managed to get a boat made of aluminum foil to float. It admittedly looked cool, but the Adam and Jamie didn’t have very much difficulty replicating it once they got the design of the boat down.
The fainting goats myth that Kari and Tory worked on was really puzzling to me. I was well aware that these creatures existed. Heck, Mike Rowe and the crew from Dirty Jobs (also on Discovery) had an episode about this not all that long ago, so it puzzles me why this myth was attempted.
MythBusters just wouldn’t be MythBusters if they didn’t involve some sort of explosion, so it was up to Grant, Kari, and Tory to replicate a video which showed a man creating a cannon which used compressed air, saw dust, and a road flare which created a hell of a fireball. It took a little scavenging, but they managed to come up with the parts for the job and proceeded to one-up the myth by using non-dairy coffee creamer instead of saw dust.
There weren’t many surprises in this episode, but I did enjoy it. The goats segment was a waste of time, but the fireman’s lift myth kept the show afloat in my opinion. The sheer enjoyment on Adam’s face is fun to see. It’s good to see he still gets a kick out of this.
