The trip back to the 70’s this week was quite a… trip. It was only a matter of time until we got to see an episode like this, Shawn and Gus helping out with one of Henry’s old cases. To be frank, this is something I’d like to see more of, not necessarily the donning of the old clothing and whatnot, but more plots involving Henry, his old cases, and possibly old co-workers. Not so long ago, we met Henry’s former partner, now suffering from Alzheimer’s. That episode worked very, very well, and was one of my favorites.
To recap, Shawn and Gus were asked by Chief Vick to look over one of Henry Spencer’s old cases when a number of cases were overturned due to a technicality pertaining to Henry’s search warrant. The case ended up being Henry’s biggest case, one involving a militant group interesting in bringing down the government.
The case was rather simple, a little boring actually. It was more of less by the book as far as the investigating aspect is concerned. There were a lot of interpersonal issues which kept me interested in watching it all play out. When Henry realized he had missed the alleged bomber’s co-conspirators, he didn’t want to be a part of the case; he’d rather let Shawn and Gus figure out out.

All the while this was going on, there was a lot of fun back at the Santa Barbara Police Department. Lassiter and O’Hara used their rank to make sure they got the best case but it didn’t end up working out how they liked. It served them right to get all scratched up. It’s good to see Buzz is still on the show. He’s a nice background character who should be more involved. The case he was given is really the only police work he’s been given. He’s usually seen standing around the station or a crime scene doing nothing. And even though he wasn’t shown investigating anything, it was implied that he did do some and his case turned out to be far more interesting than O’Hara and Lassiter’s case.
PSYCH is a lot of fun to watch each and every week. It’s one of the few shows I genuinely get a kick out of seeing. The humor and all of the antics this week kept a rather mundane case interesting.
