I admit I’ve fallen behind on my MonsterQuest viewing. I guess I’ve been really busy and this show isn’t at the top of my list of things to watch right now, thanks to the poor choices in subjects this year.
That being said, the Chupacabra is a popular creature of study in the cryptozological world. It’s a creature most known for its attacks than its appearance. Few people seem to be able to agree on what it looks like, but there’s no mistaking its victims. The Chupacabra is said to kill animals and suck out blood. There have been a few episodes where animals have had this happen to them.
This sounds like a bizarre vampire-like creature, but by the looks of things, the Chupacabra may be some sort of hybrid. I’ve long believed that whatever animal this really is is likely a canine of some kind.

A Chupacabra?
MonsterQuest had an unusually high amount of evidence to test. Usually, the series just has poor quality photos/video or sometimes just stories to go on. Here, they had photos of dead “Chupacabras”, the skeleton of one, and the decapitated (and frozen) head of another. One thing all these animals had in common was the appearance. Decidedly dog-like, the animals had a few features which made them look rather unusual: little to no hair/fur, thick skin, and long fangs.
I can’t say that I tend to learn much from the show, but the doctor from New York provided some interesting information. One of the DNA samples revealed mitochondrial DNA which told him that the animal was some sort of Wolf-Coyote hybrid.
Personally, I took this as being a huge find. And it’s not because this is going to solve the Chupacabra mystery, but Dr Mohawk (as I call him) actually provided something useful to the show. Typically, any DNA evidence which is liked to the Canidae family is simply said to be a domestic dog, wolf, etc. But when it comes to domestic dog, he NEVER specifies a particular breed of dog. I’ve always been curious why.
