This season of Weeds started as a wreck, and the writers have taken us somewhere that they simply can’t be undone now. This season has been quite disappointing, but if there’s a chance for this season to be saved, this episode might just be the start of a comeback. This episode was still quite the disappointment, but there were certainly elements of this episode that show that Weeds is heading in a better direction.
Last episode Bubbie told the family in Yiddish that she wanted them to kill her. This episode had the family trying to convince Lenny to pull the plug and then trying to figure out who exactly would pull the plug. Lenny was stubborn at first and had trouble pulling the plug like anyone would when it came to dealing with their mother. It seemed though that he wanted his mother on life support, because he was holding to the anger and animosity that he had towards her. Shane seems to be the only person in the family that Lenny likes and Shane was able to convince him that it was time to let it go.
Lenny hasn’t been a good character this season. There’s just not much to get about him. He comes off as a rather mean character. There doesn’t seem to be a justifiable reason why he’s such an ass either. As of right now, his only purpose on the show is to insult the rest of the family and just hang around. The worst thing for a character on a show is for them not to have any real reason of being on it and so far there really doesn’t seem to be any reason for him to be on the show or any reason why we would be interested in seeing more of him.

Mary-Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin
Nancy was busy this episode as well; Guillermo goes over the video of the test run she did last episode. Guillermo’s observations were very true, and even Nancy could see what she did wrong. These things don’t seem very obvious until they’re mentioned and you’re just ahhh every time they point out what she did wrong. Nancy gets the chance to do another run and this one runs smoothly even though there was a little bump in the quest in finding Guillermo, but everything worked itself out by the end.
Nancy and Guillermo still don’t have the chemistry that maybe I would like them to have, and it’s hard to accept the two of them, because Nancy has had so much better chemistry with Conrad and U-turn. Guillermo and Mary-Louise Parker are trying, but it’s just isn’t quite there yet.
Something I liked about this episode was that the heat was turned up a bit for Nancy without her even knowing it. Thanks to Celia, Nancy’s whereabouts are known and Captain Til looks to be on her case. He seems to most want to capture Guillermo, but you can bet Nancy isn’t in the clear. It feels a little like the cast is coming together more, even though Doug’s reason for Ren-Mar wasn’t very good and seemed to serve as a reason just to get him with the rest of the cast.
It wasn’t a great episode, but it was an improved episode, the plot and people seem to be coming together a lot more, so it doesn’t feel like we’re watching two different shows within a show. I’m glad Celia is out too, because her being in prison, wasn’t working all that well. Hopefully Weeds builds upon this, because there’s still a lot of work before Weeds gets back to the way we wanted.
