So it’s season two of The Sopranos. Last season had uncle Junior getting sent to prison on numerous charges and Tony becoming the head of the family. What’s changed? Well not much. Tony is running the family, Christopher is still screwing up, and things are running smoothly for in Tony’s business.

This episode brings upon the arrival of Janice… um…. Parvati Soprano who is Tony’s crack pot of a sister he talked about a couple times in season 1. Janice arrives wanting to take care of Livia, because Tony has been doing it for so long.

Tony has his suspicions though and thinks that Janice is up to some kind of scam and as we know from last season, Tony has pretty much barred his mom from his life after she basically tried to have him killed. The arrival of Janice also triggers him into having episodes. He’s losing his temper a lot more often and actually manages to pass out behind the wheel crashing his car. Dr. Melfi wants nothing to do with him after having to move her office for a while and assumes that Tony had someone killed to bring her back, even though he actually did.

Pussy returns also apparently from Puerto Rico after having some work done on his back. This story really seems unlikely and it doesn’t feel like Tony bought Pussy’s excuse and neither did we.

In honor of Janice’s return tony organizes a family reunion where we actually get to see his other sister Barbara who actually has made quite a normal family for herself. She seems to be the most normal out of the three siblings which is interesting. Tony ends up suffering another little episode when he looks at Pussy..well it’s hard to tell if it was an episode or just a slow motion of Tony looking at Pussy. It really doesn’t seem like Tony believe Pussy’s story and hopefully that’ll come up later in the season.

This episode was kind of quiet for a season premiere and I guess I was hoping that they’d have some kind of foreshadowing or set up for where this season is going. It’s obvious that Tony is going to need a new therapist or find someway to get Dr. Melfi back, because he’s heading for a meltdown. Tony’s business doesn’t seem to be in any more trouble then it was last season when we get a quick scene of the FBi putting Tony at the top of their list. Janice’s arrival brings up quite a problem, because she obviously triggers Tony’s attacks and it is quite possible that she’s just there for money and the house. So it should be interesting to see what happens in that.

This episode just seemed to normal. There were parts of interest, but it was like watching The Sopranos or a boring version of the show. The ending was simply puzzling and really didn’t seem to make much sense. This was just the first episode though so hopefully the season will start shape up starting with next episode.
