The Sopranos likes to alternate plots. Usually one involving Organization business and the other usually deals with things that are happening outside of the business, but bringing Tony’s character into question. This episode was a non organization episode. There were a couple of things going on this episode, but the main story involved Meadow’s soccer coach. Meadow’s soccer team are pretty good and it’s all thanks to the new coach. Tony, Silvio and Artie find out that Coach Hauser is going to be going away to teach college soccer. Tony isn’t too happy and instead starts sending gifts trying to get him to stay, even kidnapping his dog and bringing it back. Meadow tells Tony that the Coach has been having sex with Meadow’s friend Allie and that’s the reason why her friend has been so troubled. Tony, of course is furious about this and decides to put a hit on the guy or at least just rough him up pretty badly. The rest of the episode was built around Tony deciding whether he was going to take this guy out or not, after he’s been advised not only by Dr. Melfi, but Artie and Meadow not to do anything. In the end Tony took the right path depending on how you look at it. This decision right here has shown off how Tony has changed, because old Tony probably would have taken the guy out with no problem and it was a great moment. Situations like these show off the humanity of Tony Soprano and shows that he’s alot more then a mob boss.
On the other end Uncle Juniors sex life was called into question, and after he told his girlfriend not to blabber about it. She does and Carmella tells Tony and Tony uses it to pretty much taunt Junior. The storyline itself wasn’t all the interesting, but it furthered Junior continuing jealousy and possibly hatred for Tony. This time Junior even talked about taking Tony out. With Mikey there to instigate things it looks like Junior and Tony’s relationship might turn violent soon.
Whenever an episode makes Tony have to make a hard decision, it’s usually a good episode. Luckily Tony made the right decision which is showing that Tony is slightly evolving. Tony and Junior relationship has been steadily going downhill and while the way it was further seemed rather insignificant, it’s just gradually adding up into something we don’t want to see… or do we.
