We begin tonight’s show watching a terrible low-budget film made by Curtis Peck, an original 4400. Diana, Tom, Marco, and a few other NTAC agents watch it as well. It seems Curtis Peck has made several of these low-budget films depicting the “truth” about various historical people and events, such as JFK’s assassination, the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa, etc. Diana finds it ridiculous to think that Curtis Peck’s ability is to depict what really happened to Kennedy, Hoffa, etc. Marco then reveals that Curtis has disappeared recently and cannot be contacted. He has also failed to check in with NTAC, like all 4400s are required to do. Tom and Diana decide to look into it.
We then come across Kyle, Jordan, and Isabelle, who find an empty bomb shelter to occupy for the time being. Jordan thanks them for finding the shelter and asks them to help the created 4400s settle in.
Elsewhere, Tom and Diana try to locate Curtis Peck by going to his house. Surprisingly, the door is unlocked and even open with Diana knocks. They enter the house and find things are very messy. A neighbor drops by and asks the agents if they are looking for Curtis. It turns out the neighbor has appeared in several of Peck’s films. He shows Tom and Diana a hiding place Curtis uses. They end up finding a tape marked “watch me.” On the video, Curtis promises to reveal something big… Jordan and the 4400s aren’t the ones we should fear. Suddenly, the door is kicked down and the tape quickly comes to an end.
At NTAC, Tom and Diana examine Curtis Peck’s films and go over his financial records. Curtis seems to owe a lot of money to people. Tom wonders if creditors may be after him, but Diana says Curtis looked genuinely scared in the video they found. Diana shows Tom the credits on the back of one of the DVDs. The latest movies have all been produced by a local retired lawyer.
At the 4400 Center, Shawn watches a Gabriel Hewitt interview on TV. Hewitt is now running for mayor, not the city board. Shawn then receives a booklet of papers from a mail carrier. The book is a series of photocopied pages from the “White Light” cult book Kyle has. Shawn then receives a phone call from Kyle. Kyle asks Shawn if he would please read the book before he meets with Jordan, who would like to see Shawn. Shawn is understandably surprised by the request and the book itself.
When Tom and Diana pay the lawyer and producer, Stewart Hanley, a visit, they find him trying to escape out the back yard. He is concerned that Tom and Diana are there to kill him. When asked about Curtis, Stewart says “they” got to him. He then tells the agents about Curtis’ new film, “The Marked”. When Curtis approached him about funding it, Stewart asked for a trailer to be made first. Curtis delivered the movie trailer two weeks ago.
After receiving a copy of the movie trailer from Stewart Hanley, Tom and Diana return to NTAC and watch it. In the movie, Curtis says that not all of the people from the future want the 4400s to succeed. Those who are against the 4400s are known as “the marked.” There are ten agents from the future who were inserted into the bodies of ten powerful people of today. Their bodies and minds have been hijacked to pursue the current way of the future. Their goal is to guide the world events and to stop the 4400s. The only evidence of their existence is a mark (an X) behind their left earlobe. Curtis promises to reveal all of the details of the global conspiracy in his movie. Matthew Ross is the first member of the marked. He was killed by Isabelle Tyler, who Ross was supposed to control and guide. Curtis reveals that the marked held a meeting at the request of Drew Imroth, the CEO of Ubient Software. After the trailed is over, the NTAC agents discuss the possibilities of Curtis being right. Meghan Doyle, the head of NTAC tells Tom and Dian to pick up the producer.
Tom and Diana stop by Stewart Hanley’s house to bring him in for questioning, but they find him dead. He is found inside a running car, likely dying of carbon monoxide poisoning. They then hoke about having a meeting with Drew Imroth, the CEO of Ubient Software.
The next morning, Tom and Diana are able to get in a quick meeting with Drew Imroth. When asked about Curtis, Drew claims to not know of him and is surprised to hear the story of the “marked.” He finds it to be very creative. Before Tom and Diana go to leave, they ask if they could look behind Drew’s left ear. Much to their surprise, they do find a mark behind his left earlobe.
Having read the book, Shawn is taken to see Jordan, but is blindfolded for the journey. When the blindfold is removed, Shawn is surprised to see Isabelle, who apologizes to Shawn for what she had done to him. Jordan then enters and tells Shawn what Kyle is trying to do. Being tag-teamed by Jordan and Kyle puts Shawn on the defensive, but is able to do well in the confrontation. Shawn explains to them that he can’t join them because he has to deal with people like Gabriel Hewitt, who is running for mayor. He then tells them about Maia’s vision of Hewitt rounding up the 4400s and placing them in prison camps. Jordan understands Shawn’s predicament and wishes him good luck.
Back at NTAC, Tom and Diana talk about how off that mark behind Drew Imroth’s ear was. When they meet with Meghan, Tom learns that he is being taken into psychiatric observation for three days. This is all because of the email he sent Meghan, where he mentioned the bizarre conspiracy. Meghan apologizes but says she has to send copies of all reports back to Washington D.C.
In the parking garage, Diana tries talks to someone on her cellphone about seeing Tom, but is disappointed when she learns no one is allowed to see him yet. After she hangs up, Diana hears footsteps, so she draws her weapon and hides. The person following her turns out to be Curtis Peck. Surprised to see Curtis is alive, Diana asks him what is going on. Curtis tells her that if she can keep him alive, he will tell everyone all about the marked. It is revealed that Curtis’ ability doesn’t tell him all of the future. He has to write things out and things slowly come to him. Curtis then tells Diana that the marked had a meeting in 2005 in a city in North Africa.
To keep him alive, Diana takes Curtis Peck over to Marco’s apartment and asks that he take care of him.
Back at the 4400 center, Shawn asks his assistant to change his schedule. Shawn is surprised when he learns that Gabriel Hewitt has suffered a stroke and has severe brain damage. Shawn finds it very interesting that this happened just after speaking with Jordan.
In the middle of the night, Tom is awaken when men enter his room and give him an injection near his ear. He struggles, but he is overpowered.
At NTAC, Meghan tells Diana that Tom should be released soon. The two women get into an argument about trust. Diana then shows Meghan some details she has been able to uncover on the marked. She has found that a political adviser to the president and a cardinal were both in Tunisia in 2005. Meghan finds the information interesting, but she seems a little suspicious to me.
Back at the hospital, Tom wakes up and checks his ear. Sure enough, there is a mark behind his left ear.
Diana checks in on Curtis and Marco, but Diana is disappointed in the progress Curtis has made. She then receives a call from Tom, who asks to be picked up.
In the car, Tom is losing his mind. He tells Diana about the doctors, the injection, and the mark. Tom is wondering if he is now one of the marked.
Back at Marco’s, Curtis is getting frustrated with his story. Marco picks up the trash and suggests Curtis think of song lyrics to get him past his writers block. Marco states this helps him when he gets stuck at work. Marco then steps out to empty the trash and rushes back inside when he hears something. Curtis is gone and a black 4-door car is seen driving away very quickly.
Elsewhere, Shawn questions Jordan about Gabriel Hewitt. Shawn thinks Jordan had someone give Hewitt a stroke. Jordan denies the entire thing, however. The timing, Shawn admits, is very off. Shawn claims he can’t follow Jordan because he can’t trust him.
Marco tells Tom and Diana at NTAC about Curtis being taken. Marco wasn’t able to get a license plate number or anything useful. Tom and Diana tell Meghan about how Curtis disappeared, and she says Curtis isn’t missing. He came in a little while ago for his check-up. Puzzled, Tom and Diana visit with Curtis. Curtis explains by saying he received a call from a producer who is a fan of his work and offered him a job making a movie. When asked about the marked, Curtis says he made the whole thing up. Growing frustrated, Tom grabs Curtis and checks behind his ears for a mark. Tom is certain someone got to Curtis and made him change his story.
After spending an afternoon at NTAC medical, Tom was disappointed to hear that they were unable to find anything different about him. He talks to Diana about it, and she thinks it was just a mind-game. Drew Imroth then pulls up in a limo and says he just can’t get that marked story out of his mind. He seems to think the marked may be heroes and that NTAC should see them as allies… if they exist, of course. Tom tells Drew that whatever they did to him didn’t work.
In the shelter, Kyle and Jordan briefly discuss trust. Kyle admits the timing of Gabriel Hewitt’s stroke was bizarre to say the least. Jordan reassures Kyle that he had nothing to do with it.
Shawn pays Hewitt a visit in the hospital and ends up healing him. Hewitt thanks Shawn for what he did, but Shawn just asks him to change.
Elsewhere, we find Drew Imroth on the phone, talking to other members of the marked. He confirms that Tom was wrong in thinking it was just a mind game. He says that when they need him, Tom will be there for them.
In tonight’s installment of The 4400, we were introduced to a very bizarre story twist. It’s been some time since something like this has been injected into the show. I’m all for explaining more about the background of those who were involved in creating the 4400s. I am also getting a bad vibe about Meghan Doyle, the head of NTAC. I think she knows more about the marked than she is letting on.
