Jon started off the show by talking a little bit about the show tonight, and then started talking about the hurricane, which is now a category 12, nearly a black hole, and none of us will be spared.
Until Hurricane Rita hits, the focus will still be on Hurricane Katrina and its devastation. Jon does a little impression of Bush after a video, and suggested Bush was much like Santa, promising a little something to everyone. Jon talked about the financial aspect of the recovery effort in the south; there are several ideas being thrown around, but the President hasn’t endorsed any of the theories.
To get further analysis in the issue, Jon turns to Senior Fiscal Policy Analyst, Rob Corddry. Rob kind of goes after the president, but he sounds like he’s praising him somehow, must be the great writing. In Rob’s analysis, the administration is… unreadable charts.
After the commercial break, Jon’s standing in front of one of their big monitors. This week’s “A Relatively Closer Look” takes a closer look at the White House press secretary and the press conferences. Jon shows a few dozen clips of the ways White House press secretaries “answer” questions, from both the Clinton and Bush administrations. It was well written, but the audience didn’t seem to get into it quite as much.
Back from commercial, Jon welcomes Ricky Gervais, who has gained a great deal of fame because of his British TV program, The Office. Ricky and Jon discussed everything from the Emmys and the two different The Office versions. Not being a follower of either version of the show, I honestly had no interest in this interview, however, I suppose it you were a fan of those shows, you likely enjoyed it, as Gervais is gaining fame here in the U.S.
